“I think if you’re a regular viewer of Fox News, you’re among the most cynical people on planet Earth,” Keller said. “I cannot think of a more cynical slogan than ‘Fair and Balanced’ ”
It’s the second time this year that Keller has made critical comments about Fox News. At the end of January, he spoke to veteran journalist Marvin Kalb, and said that Fox News and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, had made American political discourse more “cynical,” “strident” and “polarized.”

Lost in the 21st Century 
The other essential ingredient to the Fox formula is self-congratulation. The network (as presented by its on-camera talent) and its viewers get the feeling that they have already guessed at — no, perhaps known in advance the content of the story being broadcast. The confidence, the smugness so engendered can not be reasoned with because to differ is akin to arguing with an oracle. The oracle whose own source, in the case of Fox, is God.
