Another great article from Frank Rich in today’s New York Times. I love the way he uses “Mad Men” and the 1960’s to introduce this…I encourage you to click the link at the bottom and read it in its brilliant entirety.
Here is an excerpt:
This country was rightly elated when it elected its first African-American president more than 20 months ago. That high was destined to abate, but we reached a new low last week. What does it say about America now, and where it is heading, that a racial provocateur, wielding a deceptively edited video, could not only smear an innocent woman but make every national institution that touched the story look bad? The White House, the N.A.A.C.P. and the news media were all soiled by this episode. Meanwhile, the majority of Americans, who believe in fundamental fairness for all, grapple with the poisonous residue left behind by the many powerful people of all stripes who served as accessories to a high-tech lynching.

Yep, I read this early A.M. And I too think it interesting how Mr.Rich sets his theme with a scene from Mad Men.
But the big-truth from the whole sordid affair seems to have gone unnoticed. Hillary Clinton was, without a doubt, right.
There is a right wing- political- cultural, and media conspiracy to de-legitimize any democratically elected President that doesn’t cow tow to the GOP Christianist base, fully embrace supply side crackpotisum, and believes that Militarism should be U.S. foreign policy by default.
It’s far more than the expected political jockeying and juggling of the natural tensions when acting the “loyal opposition.”
It’s guerrilla theater most cruel. Poison plot after toxic story line to distort the reality of any national election that doesn’t go their way.
And, if given, even the slightest chance, they’ll take the dénouement to another impeachment. And this time, they know how to better rig it.
Regards and we are in for a ride.

The huge shame as Mr.Rich correctly alludes to is that the media. Sect.Vilsack, the NAACP, and the
White House all ran with the story and believe it without considering the source!! Secondary to all this is the typical GOP non-response and hide in the shadows until this blows over. There was no public admonishment by the Republicans of Mr. Breitbart actions, therefore they proliferate the propaganda machine in trying to create a regime change in Washington to there favor in attempt to return to power. It’s maddening and appalling behavior.
