Forget Planes and Automobiles….
Believe it or not, there was a time when Trains where an integral part of American Culture and a viable travel option…
I wish those days would come back…
Then, we might be able to travel as freely, cheaply, easily and comfortably as the rest of the world….
I’ve been working on an essay about Frankfort, Michigan, or at least partly about Frankfort, which was the home of the Ann Arbor Railroad Car ferries, the first ferries to transport entire freight trains across the Great Lakes. To read about them is of course to read about the demise of the railroads, which is so sad. All those all rail beds are now walking trails, which we like, but they are also improvements that remind us of loss.
