Fox News Ratings Hit 12-Year Demo Lows In January Cable News Figures

Some interesting information from the Huffington Post…..

I’m interested to see how/if this trend continues….

Keep in mind, Fox News has the same problem as the GOP: Only old white people pay them any attention and that demographic is dying out.  Younger people don’t watch much TV news anyway, but they certainly aren’t watching Fox.

And cheers to Rachel Maddow and the gang at MSNBC….

And, does anyone watch CNN anymore?  I can remember when they did real news and I watched it almost all the time.  Now I can’t take five minutes of their blathering.  Well, except for Anderson Cooper and even his show is not exactly a master class in journalism anymore….

Here is an excerpt from the Huff Post article and a link to the full story:

At the end of each month, cable news ratings are released to the public. And, like clockwork, Fox News dominates the top 13 or so programs, far outstripping its competitors.

January was … a little different. To be sure, everything is relative in cable news: Fox News still had nine out of the top ten programs. It has spent 11 consecutive years as the top-rated cable news channel. Its 6 AM show drew almost double the ratings of CNN’s top-ranking prime time show.

But, as rival MSNBC was quick to point out, and BuzzFeed was quick to trumpet, Fox News had its worst primetime ratings in the coveted 25-54 demo since August 2001, and its lowest total day ratings since June 2008.

To a seasoned watcher of cable news ratings, there were other surprises. Rachel Maddow, for instance, came in 10th, beating “Studio B” and the 11 PM repeat of “The O’Reilly Factor.” In January 2012, she came in 14th. It may not seem like much, but the top of the cable news field has been extremely stable — and if Maddow were to continue creeping up the list, it would mean a real sea change. Overall, MSNBC — perhaps powered by liberal euphoria over President Obama’s inauguration — was the only cable news channel to grow its ratings from 2012.

This continues a pattern that emerged in 2012: Fox News viewers tuned out en masse from Democratic-themed events, causing the network’s ratings to plunge during the Democratic National Convention, the hours immediately following Obama’s re-election, and the president’s inauguration. MSNBC, meanwhile, benefited from the solidification of its Democratic-friendly lineup, and drew a lion’s share of eager liberal viewers.

Did Nancy Grace’s words kill ‘Vodka Mom’?

I’m sorry, but I think Nancy Grace is evil….

She is the most uptight, white woman who ever lived…

And, god knows, that is saying a lot…..

This woman had big problems.  She made some big mistakes.  But Nancy, aka, God, judged her in the Court of Public Opinion and cause Her judgement to be rendered…

I’m sorry, but someone needs to remind Nancy her name is Nancy and not Jehovah…..

The best thing CNN could do to start to regain respect would be to dump this crazy uptight woman…but then, I’m sure she does bring in some cash…

Judge not, least ye be judged…..

From the Examiner:

The 29-year-old mother was drunk when she rolled over on her 3-week-old baby. The incident had her facing charges and looking at facing judicial consequences. However friends say the mother became distraught after Nancy Grace, the HLN talk show host mentioned on her show that she was the “Vodka Mom” and questioned why the mother wasn’t being charged with first degree murder. Using a vodka bottle as a prop and carrying on, Grace brought pressure to the case of maximum proportions.

CNN Hits 21-Year Ratings Low In Second Quarter

Somehow, I’m not surprised….

Old people leave Faux News on 24/7 to keep them company and reinforce their prejudices, while CNN becomes more ridiculous everyday…

CNN isn’t about news anymore, it’s about entertainment and sensationalism- just like there rest of the Corporate Media.

They blew their reputation for being a “serious” news network a long time ago…

But I miss the old CNN.  Just the facts and good solid, objective reporting.  But there doesn’t seem to be a place for that anymore in an America that no longer recognizes the existence of “facts”…

Not with the Corporate ownership of the Media….

They really shouldn’t call it the “Cable News Network” anymore…

It’s the “Corrupted Nonsense Network” now…..

Form the Huffington Post:

CNN had its worst ratings in twenty-one years, according to quarterly figures released on Tuesday.

CNN drew an average of just 319,000 total viewers and 129,000 viewers ages 25-54 in the second quarter. Ratings fell 35% among total viewers and 41% in the key demo compared to the same time last year. Primetime ratings also suffered big losses — 35% and 45% in those audiences respectively.

The news was inevitable, after months of terrible ratings at the network. CNN had its lowest-rated month in over a decade in April. May was its worst month in primetime in over twenty years.

As usual, Fox News dominated the ratings in the second quarter, taking 13 of the top thirty programs. MSNBC and Fox News also saw drops, though smaller than CNN’s, from last year. The second quarter of 2012 saw less news than in 2011, when Osama bin Laden died and as Arab Spring protests continued.

CNN Tops Cable Ratings Amid World News Bounty – NYTimes.com

Great news about both the rise in ratings at CNN and their returned focus to hard news.  As a former news junkie, there just isn’t anything for me on TV anymore…

I like MSNBC, but they have to be the worst managed Network out there.  As their ratings started to improve, they let Keith get away.  And they basically ceded the weekends by putting that prison crap on all Saturday and Sunday.

They don’t seem to realize the Fox viewers just keep Fox on all the time.  I used to do that with CNN before it became so insipid.  MSNBC will never build that kind of loyalty when they aren’t even willing to program news all week….

Maybe CNN will come back to what it once was.  It would be nice to have at least one TV channel I could watch without wanting to throw things at the TV…

But that still won’t cure the issue with both the number of commercials and their vulgarity that appear on TV…but that’s another post….

CNN has been the big ratings gainer among the cable news networks during the extensive coverage of events in Japan and Libya in the last two weeks, and that success has come mostly at the expense of MSNBC, which has fallen into third place almost across the board because of CNN’s surge.

The disparity has been most noticeable during the last two weekends, when CNN has attracted huge audiences with continuing coverage of the international crises, beating even Fox News, the perennial leader among the news channels. Meanwhile MSNBC, sticking to a weekend lineup of recorded programs largely about problems in prisons, attracted only about a third as many viewers as CNN.

In prime time Saturday, CNN averaged 678,000 viewers among the audience most desired by news advertisers, ages 25 to 54. MSNBC averaged 254,000, while Fox News drew 353,000. On Sunday, CNN averaged 442,000 viewers; MSNBC, 298,000; and Fox News, 344,000.

Now CNN’s advantage has begun to carry over into weeknights. For more than two years, MSNBC has consistently beaten CNN in prime time on weeknights. But for March, CNN has moved ahead from 8 to 11 p.m., beating MSNBC in every hour among the 25-to-54 audience.

If the message seems to be that CNN cannot be matched in covering breaking international news, even MSNBC’s top executive is not disputing it.

“This is where CNN excels,” said Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC. “This is in their bull’s-eye, and they’ve done a great job. Even Fox News, which dominates them, gets beat by CNN at times like this.”

He called MSNBC’s weekend reliance on “Lockup,” its recorded documentary-style program about prisons, a “tricky situation.” He said, “This is our strategy for weekends, and it has worked well for us.” Its audience now “has an expectation” of seeing such programs on Saturday and Sunday nights, he said.

ThinkProgress » CNN Foreign Corespondent Calls Out Fox News: ‘Outrageous’ ‘Lies And Deceit’

I don’t know why anyone surprised….

It’s not like Fox News cares about journalism or facts…

All the other networks seem to be getting more and more frustrated with the laziness, lies and propaganda that really defines Fox News….

Thing is, the Fox News viewers don’t care…

This afternoon, Fox News reported that the Qadaffi regime used foreign journalists, including teams from CNN and Reuters, as a “human shield” to thwart an attack on Qadaffi’s compound last night. The compound had already been hit by allied missiles, but in its exclusive report — which is FoxNews.com’s most read and commented story — Fox alleges that “British sources” told them that allied forces were planning a second attack, which was called off due to the journalists’ presence.

But on the Situation Room tonight, a visibly frustrated CNN senior international correspondent Nic Robertson, who was on the CNN team that visited the compound, called the report untruthful and “outrageous.” Moreover, Robertson acccused Fox of “lies and deceit” for claiming none of their staffers went on the same trip when one in fact did:

WOLF BLITZER: I want you to explain what you know about this suggestion Fox news reporting that you, a Reuters crew, some other journalists were effectively used by Gadhafi as a human shield to prevent allied fighter planes from coming in and attacking a certain position. Explain what you know about this.

ROBERTSON: Wolf, this allegation is outrageous and it’s absolutely hypocritical. When you come to somewhere like Libya, you expect lies and deceit from a dictatorship here. You don’t expect it from the other journalists. […]

They sent a member of their team. He was not editorial. He was nontechnical, not normally a cameraman.

I see [Fox’s corespondent] more times at breakfast than out on trips with government officials here. So for them to say and call this — to say they didn’t go and for them to call this and say this was government propaganda to hold us there as human shields when they didn’t even leave the hotel, it’s ridiculous.
