Jeremy Renner Slams The Kardashians

I’m loving Jeremy Renner more and more as time goes by…..

Especially as television reality shows get worse and worse….

We all need to stand up against this celebration of cultural decline….

I’m still in shock over something called the Honey Boo Boo Child that apparently has a TV show.  At least according to some very scary posts I saw on FaceBook….

I really wish I didn’t know about these things–Kardashians, the Jersey Shore People and Honey Boo Boo’s…..

It’s all one big celebration of being vulgar, tacky, trashy and just plain common….

Where are Audrey Hepburn, Jacqueline Kennedy and Grace Kelly when you need them?

From The Huffington Post:

Jeremy Renner joins the growing list of actors to express an extreme distaste for the Kardashians.

In a recent interview with the U.K. paper The Guardian, the “Bourne Legacy” star claimed that he never wanted to be famous, and while discussing the pitfalls of fame he unleashed his disdain for the reality TV family.

When the Kardashian name was mentioned by the interviewer, Renner reportedly rolled his eyes and then called them “ridiculous people with zero talent who spend their lives making sure everyone knows their name,” adding that they are “stupid, stupid people.”

Did Nancy Grace’s words kill ‘Vodka Mom’?

I’m sorry, but I think Nancy Grace is evil….

She is the most uptight, white woman who ever lived…

And, god knows, that is saying a lot…..

This woman had big problems.  She made some big mistakes.  But Nancy, aka, God, judged her in the Court of Public Opinion and cause Her judgement to be rendered…

I’m sorry, but someone needs to remind Nancy her name is Nancy and not Jehovah…..

The best thing CNN could do to start to regain respect would be to dump this crazy uptight woman…but then, I’m sure she does bring in some cash…

Judge not, least ye be judged…..

From the Examiner:

The 29-year-old mother was drunk when she rolled over on her 3-week-old baby. The incident had her facing charges and looking at facing judicial consequences. However friends say the mother became distraught after Nancy Grace, the HLN talk show host mentioned on her show that she was the “Vodka Mom” and questioned why the mother wasn’t being charged with first degree murder. Using a vodka bottle as a prop and carrying on, Grace brought pressure to the case of maximum proportions.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer Saunders! Edie Monsoon of “Absolutely Fabulous”

Edina Monsoon, of “Absolutely Fabulous” fame, is 54 today….

Only a few months older than me….

Jennifer Saunders is a comic genius…

And not just because she so accurately portrayed me in my 30’s and early 40’s….

And I had several friends trying out for the role of “Pats”….

One was more successful than others….but wait for the book!

Rest in Peace, Andy Griffith and Lonesome Rhodes

The news just broke this morning that Andy Griffith has died….

Most people will always remember Andy Griffith as Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry….

I’ll always remember him for his great performance as Lonesome Rhodes in the great film “A Face in the Crowd.”

He should have at least gotten an Oscar nomination for this….

And I wish more people would watch the film today….

Rest in Peace, Andy….you won’t be forgotten….

Kristy McNichol Comes Out

It must be so sad to finally come out of the closet and no one cares….

We all knew….

All I can think is she really must need some cash and really want a new sitcom and is hoping the publicity will make her marketable again…

So sad….that I am so cynical.

She is a really talented actress.  I think she could have been as great as Jodie Foster if she had been more secure…

But Gay people of our generation had a different journey.  I can understand her fears, but it’s just too late to matter that she’s coming out….

Most of us who are Gay and her age bit the bullet and came out years ago.  She could have, too.

While I always want Gay Actors to come out, it would have meant so much more if “Buddy” had confirmed our knowledge that she was Gay years ago.

Still, we can’t judge and look back…

I wish her the best….

Gay people always love a comeback!

From People Magazine, of course:

Kristy McNichol has been out of the public eye for 20 years. Now she’s chosen to come out – to try to help kids who are being bullied.

McNichol, 49, who has lived with her partner Martie Allen, also 49, for the past two decades, decided to make a statement about her sexuality and share this photo because she is “approaching 50” and wants to “be open about who I am.”

She “is very sad about kids being bullied,” her publicist Jeff Ballard tells PEOPLE. “She hopes that coming out can help kids who need support. She would like to help others who feel different.”

Best known for her Emmy Award-winning role as Buddy Lawrence in the ’70s show Family and later as Barbara Weston in Empty Nest, McNichol left it all behind when she dropped out of Hollywood to focus on her health.

Done with acting, McNichol spends her time focusing on tennis, yoga, travel and raising her beloved miniature dachshunds. “She is very happy and healthy,” says Ballard. “And she enjoys living a very private life.”

Sherwood Schwartz, Creator of ‘Gilligan’s Island’ and ‘Brady Bunch’ Dies at 94

A little piece of American Cultural History has passed on…

Sherwood Schwartz, creator of the TV Classics “Gilligan’s Island” and “The Brady Bunch” has passed away.

I can’t imagine what my childhood and youth would have been like without these shows!

And the folks in Washington today could learn some lessons from how the diverse cast characters of “Gilligan’s Island” managed to get along and work through their issues.

From the LA Times:

The Times wasn’t kind when it reviewed “Gilligan’s Island” in 1964, writing, “‘Gilligan’s Island’ is a television series that never should have reached the air this season, or any other season.” But the series defied critics and lasted for three seasons, eventually becoming a staple of syndication.

Its creator, Sherwood Schwartz, died of natural causes Tuesday morning in Los Angeles. He was 94.

Schwartz’s impact on pop culture will long survive. In addition to “Gilligan’s Island,” Schwartz created the family sitcom “The Brady Bunch.” Each series came affixed with its own memorably jolly theme song, with lyrics written by Schwartz.

In The Times’ obit, Dennis McLellan wrote:

Schwartz once said he created “Gilligan’s Island,” which aired on CBS from 1964 to 1967, as an escape from his seven years on “The Red Skelton Show,” for which he served as head writer and won an Emmy in 1961.

There was nothing quite as escapist as the wacky tale of seven people on a small charter boat, the SS Minnow, who set out on a “three-hour tour” and wound up shipwrecked on an uncharted South Pacific Island.

Starring Bob Denver in the title role of the boat’s bumbling crew member, “Gilligan’s Island” famously featured the exasperated skipper (Alan Hale Jr.), the millionaire and his wife (Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer), the professor (Russell Johnson), the naïve country girl (Dawn Wells) and the sexy movie star (Tina Louise).

Schwartz also wrote the lyrics for the show’s memorable theme song.

For all its crude sight gags, low-brow humor and pratfalls, Schwartz viewed “Gilligan’s Island” as something more: It is, he proclaimed, “my version of a social microcosm, where seven people from various backgrounds had to learn to live together.”

A Remake of 80s TV show ‘Dallas’ Gets Green Light

I can’t believe they are doing this…

It will be interesting to see how it turns out.

If it’s a hit, maybe they’ll re-launch my favorite 1980’s prime time soaper “Dynasty”!  Of course, it wouldn’t be the same now that John Forsythe is gone…

Anyway….

The US series – which ran from 1978 to 1991 and centered around the power struggles within a Texan oil dynasty – will return to screens in the summer of next year, with cable network TNT ordering 10 episodes of the explosive drama.

Jesse Metcalfe, Jordana Brewster, Brenda Strong, Josh Henderson and Julie Gonzalo will all star in the remake, alongside ‘Dallas’ veteran Larry Hagman – who played J.R. Ewing in the original series – as well as Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy.

Michael Wright, executive vice-president and head of programming for TNT, said: “TNT has explored the possibility of an updated version of ‘Dallas’ for several years, but it wasn’t until we read Cynthia Cidre’s outstanding pilot script that we knew we had the foundation for a great new series.”

The network will preview the new series of ‘Dallas’ – written and produced by Cynthia Cidre – on Monday night (11.07.11).

Michael M. Robin has helmed the pilot episode and will co executive produce alongside Cynthia.
