It’s my Birthday and I’ll Post If I Want to…

Since, thanks to Facebook and these blogs, I no longer have any secrets….

Thanks to all of you for the Birthday wishes.  I truly appreciate it.

I thought I would share a few videos that reflect my thoughts on various stages of  growing just a little bit older…

And the journey to get there…

I can’t believe I’m almost 42, ugh, I mean 52…

Staged Reading of plays by Steve Willis, Oct. 25 at 7pm

Just a note to let you know about an evening of plays from the Great American Playwright Steve Willis.

Who just happens to be my partner!

I hope you will mark your calendars and plan to be part of a special event on Monday evening, Oct. 25th, when Paper Lantern Theatre Company presents a staged reading of two plays by Steve Willis: The Shadow of Eldorado, a play he wrote a few years ago that won several awards; and an excerpt from a new play he started writing this summer about Dorothy Kilgallen. Check out the attached flyer for all the details.
Paper Lantern has lined up a terrific cast of excellent local actors, including Michael Kamtman, Tennille Foust, and Beth Ritson. The event is free and we would love it if you could be there.
Feel free to spread the word to anyone you know who might be interested.
Hope to see you there.

Happy Birthday, Hugh Jackman

Since today is Hugh Jackman’s 42nd Birthday, I’m going to repost this one…..

Broadway Memories:  Hugh Jackman as Peter Allen In “The Boy From Oz”

One of our great nights in the Theatre, a few seasons ago, was to see Hugh Jackman in “The Boy From Oz” on Broadway.  If you only know him as Wolverine, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

This guy is amazing on stage.  He totally captured Peter Allen’s style and personae.  Peter was a showman and Hugh definitely is one, too.

And he never missed a performance during the entire run of the show.

Here are some clips:

And a couple of clips of the real, late,  great, Peter Allen:

Chapter 28: Kotex and Funeral Pies | My Southern Gothic Life

New post up on my other blog:

As I said before, my Mother really could not- or would not- cook.

She always blamed my Grandmother.  She said she never bothered to teach her.  Or she blamed my Aunt Goldie, who she said stopped my Grandmother from teaching her because she was too little and fragile.

Both my Grandmother and my Aunt Goldie were wonderful cooks.  My Grandmother’s kitchen was about the size of a walk in closet, but she could turn out delicious Holiday meals, made from scratch, for a dozen people without seeming to make much effort.  She cooked 3 meals a day until the day she died.

Goldie lived for “Southern Living Magazine” and sometimes seemed to try every recipe in every issue.

My Mother would call from work and ask if we wanted anything from the Drive Thru on her way home…

Chapter 27: Babies on Board | My Southern Gothic Life

New post up on my other blog:

Back in the 1980′s, I was aware a cultural tsunami was occurring.  There were signs every where, but mainly hanging in the back of  these new fangled things called “mini-vans” that really frightened me.

These signs said:  ”Baby on Board”.  They were innocuous triangular-shaped signs, but I just knew they meant big trouble in the future.

Jon Stewart: The Most Trusted Name In Fake News : NPR

Great article and interview with Jon Stewart on NPR.

Here is an excerpt from the story and if you click the link, you can read the entire interview:

On Oct. 30, comedians Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will host dueling rallies on the National Mall. Called “The Rally to Restore Sanity” and the “March to Keep Fear Alive,” respectively, the two rallies closely mimic Glenn Beck’s recent “Restoring Honor Rally,” also held in Washington, D.C.

Stewart sat down with Terry Gross on Sept. 29 in front of a live audience at New York City’s 92nd Street Y to discuss his time on The Daily Show, his role in the media, and the upcoming rally — which is being billed as “Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement.”

“Like everything that we do, the march is merely a construct,” he says. “It’s merely a format, in the way the book is a format, a show is a format … to be filled with the type of material that Stephen and I do and the point of view [that we have]. People have said, ‘It’s a rally to counter Glenn Beck.’ It’s not. What it is was, we saw that and thought, ‘What a beautiful outline. What a beautiful structure to fill with what we want to express in live form, festival form.”

For the past 11 years, Stewart has been expressing his opinions nightly on The Daily Show, which consistently ranks among the top programs viewed by the 18-34 age demographic. His quick wit and biting satire have taken the once-obscure fake-news show and made it an influential voice in American humor and politics.

‘Jersey Boys’ Finally Heading to the Big Screen – The Moviefone Blog

This is great news.  Ever since I saw this for the first time in New York, I thought it would be an even better film than a Broadway show.  I hope they do this right….

Oh, what a night — if there’s one musical Hollywood’s been eager to get its hands on, it’s ‘Jersey Boys’ — also known as the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. The production has done killer business, pulling in over a billion dollars worldwide since its debut five years ago, while also earning four Tony Awards (including the weighty Best Musical) and a Grammy when the tunes were put on CD.

With solid success, ‘Jersey Boys’ powered forward with no Hollywood plans in sight, but all of that changed six weeks ago. The screen rights were made available, an auction commenced and after a big seven-figure deal, Graham King’s GK Films will whip the stage story into a feature film.

Sting: “Moon Over Bourbon Street”

I love this song….

It’s the one that convinced me Sting really is an artist and not just a singer…
