Papa John’s, Denny’s, Applebees brands hurt by Obamacare criticism

Good…

I never went to Denny’s or Applebees to begin with, but  used to order Papa John’s on occasion.  But not since their CEO made his idiotic statements after the election.

I’m now boycotting Papa John’s.  I’ve long boycotted Domino’s due to their political actions and I hate Pizza Hut.

Another reason to buy local pizzas!

Local pizzas are better anyway.   We have several local, wood-fired pizza options.  At least one, uses only locally grown ingredients.

I should always been buying all our pizzas from them to begin with…

If only they delivered…..

Well, we all must make some sacrifices….

From AmericaBlog.com:

Though it has many faults, one great aspect of the free market – the actual free market and not what we have on Wall Street – is that customers have choices. Since the Obama re-election victory in November, a few CEOs and business executives couldn’t accept that they lost, and chose instead to bash President Obama and Obamacare.

It was especially strange to hear one CEO, Papa John’s’ John Schnatter, complain about the supposedly high costs of Obamacare forcing him to limit his workers’ hours, while he somehow found the money to build a moat around his mansion and a personal golf course. He’s also the same CEO who is facing a $250 million class action lawsuit for sending text messages to customers.

Then there was the local Denny’s franchiseewho came up with the bright idea to tack on a 5% surcharge to every check to supposedly pay for Obamacare.

Or Applebee’s NY franchisee who claimed Obamacare may force him to institute a hiring freeze.

Senate Republicans Shoot Down Treaty For Disabled Rights

These Republicans in the Senate are getting to be as bad as the ones in the House.

What an embarrassment….

These are among the most idiotic responses I’ve ever read….

From TalkingPointsMemo:

The Senate Tuesday fell short of the two-thirds vote required to ratify a United Nations treaty aimed at securing rights for disabled people around the world, when the vast majority of Republican senators voted against the treaty. The final vote was 61-38 vote. All the nay votes were Republican.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities essentially makes the 1990 Americans With Disabilities Act a non-binding international standard. It requires no change to U.S. law.

Originally signed by then-President George W. Bush in 2006 and re-signed by President Barack Obama in 2009 shortly after he took office, the treaty has been championed by former Sen. Bob Dole (R-KS), the one-time GOP presidential nominee who suffered a disability while serving in the Army in World War II. Dole was on the Senate floor Tuesday ahead of the ratification vote, in a wheelchair, accompanied by his wife, former Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC).

October Surprise: Romney Lies, Under Oath, to Help Friend Protect Assets from Wife in Ugly Divorce

Of course it’s not surprise that Romney lies like a cheap rug…

Or that he considers women less than equal to men…

But that he lies under oath shows he’s surprisingly stupid….

Or feels he is so entitled oaths and laws don’t apply to him…

And helping rich friends keep their money always comes first….

What a scumbag….

From Salon.com:

Documents unsealed by a court in Massachusetts today show that Mitt Romney created a special share of stock to help a friend give his ex-wife less money during a nasty divorce, and then testified that she got a fair price, even though she made a fraction of what the shares were worth just a year later.

Romney testified that Tom Stemberg, the founder of Staples, had properly appraised the value of the company’s shares at $2.25 during the divorce. But a year later the share price closed at exactly 10 times that amount on the first day of its IPO.

As we noted yesterday, the divorce testimony was the “October Surprise” with the most potential to actually be surprising. It seems like it may not disappoint. While initial rumors that Romney lied about Staples’ value under oath appear overblown, the story is not particularly flattering at a time when both candidates are desperately trying to attract female voters.

Fran Lebowitz, Frank Rich At Town Hall: Pair Debate State Of The Union

These are two of my favorite political and social commentators….

I agree with about 99% of what they say….

I would love to see them together some time.

Here is a brief excerpt from a Huffington Post article on them:

Lebowitz, in particular, wants to caution her political allies — and her candidate — that sitting back and waiting for people to realize that you’re right and your opponent is wrong doesn’t work in the era of Kim Kardashian and Honey Boo Boo. “Obama [is] living in a world where I have chosen to live in, where a raised eyebrow has an effect — which is not the United States,” she told The Huffington Post.

She went on to refer to the Republican party as a “confederacy” and eviscerate Romney’s argument that his success as a C.E.O. proves that he can run the country. “[A business] has one goal: to make a profit,” she said. “Even three-year-olds have more complicated goals than that.”

Funeral Strippers: Taiwan Showgirls Strip For The Dead

Beats speaking in tongues, snake handling, suttee and other funeral customs I can think of….

Maybe I’ll put it in my will that I want a couple of male strippers at my wake.  That ought to drive up attendance….

From The Huffington Post:

In many Eastern countries, paying respects to the dead with earthly gifts — like food and money — is not an uncommon practice. But in Taiwan, some have taken ancestor worship to sexier heights, as strippers pole dance and peel off their clothes for the benefit of the deceased.

According to an AFP report released Tuesday, pole dances and stripteases are commonly performed at religious festivals in some areas in Taiwan in order to “appease the wandering spirits.”

In some cases, women dressed in tiny miniskirts and revealing brassieres shimmy and shake on stage in front an audience of men, women and children.

However, though this may seem bizarre to some, it is neither a new nor terribly unorthodox practice — at least as far as Taiwan goes.

Gay Like Me: A Bible Belt Conservative Walks in a Gay Man’s Shoes

This is a very interesting article:  A Straight, Liberty University, Right Wing Christian guy pretends to be Gay for a year to learn about Gay people, who they really are and what their journey entails.

And this journey seems to take him on an interesting personal journey as well.

To give away the story, he ends up re-affirming his Christian faith, but also going from a bigoted Fundamentalist to supporting Gay Rights as he begins to understand how Gay people really live, how diverse the Gay Community is, who Gay people really are and the impacts of prejudice, bigotry and hate…

I may have to read the entire book-“The Cross in the Closet” by Timothy Kurek.

Here is an excerpt from and a link to the RawStory.com piece:

For an entire year Kurek lived “under cover” as a homosexual in his home town of Nashville. He told his family he was gay, as well as his friends and his church. Only two pals and an aunt – used to keep an eye on how his mother coped with the news – knew his secret. One friend, a gay man called Shawn – whom Kurek describes as a “big black burly teddy bear” – pretended to be his boyfriend. Kurek got a job in a gay cafe, hung out in a gay bar and joined a gay softball league, all the while maintaining his inner identity as a straight Christian.

The result was a remarkable book called The Cross in the Closet, which follows on the tradition of other works such as Black Like Me, by a white man in the 1960s deep south passing as a black American, and 2006′s Self-Made Man, by Norah Vincent, who details her time spent in disguise living as a man. “In order to walk in their shoes, I had to have the experience of being gay. I had to come out to my friends and family and the world as a gay man,” he told the Observer.

If you need any further evidence that it’s insane to support Romney, this is it….

Poor, Lindsay….so lost in so many ways.

From the Huffington Post:

Lindsay Lohan has joined the likes of Stacey Dash and Hulk Hogan by telling the press she’s voting for Mitt Romney.

Appearing at a promotional event, the “Liz & Dick” star said her decision came down to one issue: unemployment.

“I just think employment is really important right now,” she said. “So, as of now, Mitt Romney. As of now.”

“It’s a long story,” she added, according to E! News.
