NC Gov McCrory to Campaign for Ken Cuccinelli for VA Gov

I guess Cuccinelli, who appears to be down by between 10-17 points to Democrat Terry McAuliffe, figures nothing can hurt him now….

I just hope someone captures some video and pictures to use when McCrory runs for re-election and tries to claim to be a “moderate” Republican again.  Cuccinelli is the darling of the Tea Party and the Religious Wrong…

From WRAL Raleigh:

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory will campaign for fellow Republican and Virginia gubernatorial hopeful Ken Cuccinelli on Thursday.

The get out the vote rally, advertised by the Cuccinelli campaign, will take place in Roanoke, Va., at noon.

NC Voter ID Laws and the Return of Jesse Helms

These people just aren’t very bright, but they are exceedingly mean.

The best way to defeat the GOP might just be to put them all on TV all the time….

The Republicans only get into trouble when they leave the Fox News bubble and venture out into the smarter, more modern real world…

You know, to places like “The Daily Show”.

Well, that’s what happened last night when NC Republican Executive Committee Member Don Yelton did his best to channel the late Jesse Helms on “The Daily Show.”

I want to say it’s unbelievable, but we passed that threshold a long time ago…

And at least he’s an honest bigot…..

Here is the link to the complete “The Daily Show” segment.  See for yourself….

Obamacare Rollout vs Bush Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Rollout

How fast people forget….

The Bush Medicare Part B- which is still a nightmare to enroll in and compare coverage- had a very rocky start itself.  Funny, how the GOP seems to forget that….

Almost all the same problems impacting the early days of Obamacare, as they call it now,  were there for the Bush rollout as well.

While it would have been nice to have had a seamless launch for both, it’s ultimately the benefits that matter, not how smoothly the program launches.  We have time to fix the glitches….

In other words, get a grip!

From ThinkProgress.org:

Millions of Americans try to enroll in health care benefits during the first days of a new government health care program. They rely on indispensable government website that had been “pitched as a high-tech way” to sort through available coverage options. They’re encountering countless glitches and technical errors: the website freezes, displays incorrect plan information and sends insurers erroneous reports.

Administration officials — clearly caught off guard by the surge of technical difficulties — respond to “tens of thousands of complaints” from angry beneficiaries and promise to “fix every problem as quickly possible.”

This sounds like the familiar story of the last few days of the Obama administration’s rollout of the exchanges. But, actually, those quotes, and that scenario, are taken from the Bush administration’s efforts to implement the Medicare prescription drug benefit in 2005 and 2006.

Never Have Republicans Been More Disliked Than Right Now as GOP Unfavorables Hit 64%

I repeat:  I really wish the 2014 Elections were being held in 2013….

Still, the GOP shows no signs of learning from this experience, so perhaps they will be even more unpopular next year…

One can hope….

From PoliticsUSA.com:

The latest CNN/ORC poll finds that the Republican Party has never been more disliked than right now. The government shutdown fallout continues as 64% of Americans have an unfavorable view of the GOP.

…….

Since CNN began asking the question nearly 22 years ago, the Republican Party has never been as unpopular as they are right now. The havoc that Republicans unleashed on the American people during the month of October is not going to be soon gone or forgotten.

Texas Judge Almost Blocked From Voting Because Of New Voter ID Law

I fear this is a merely a taste of things to come….

And to those of you who think Voter ID Bills are no big deal, think again…

In addition to the known impact to minorities and the poor, it seems no one really looked at the impact this might have on women, who are more likely to change their names with marriage or divorce….

From ThinkProgress.org

A Texas district judge who has been voting for the past five decades was almost barred from the polls Tuesday, thanks to the state’s newly implemented, stricter voter ID law. The law kicked in on Tuesday as early voting in Texas’ November 5 election began. As she told local channel Kiii News, 117th District Court Judge Sandra Watts was flagged for possible voter fraud because her driver’s license lists her maiden name as her middle name, while her voter registration form has her real middle name. This was the first time she has ever had a problem voting in 49 years. “What I have used for voter registration and for identification for the last 52 years was not sufficient yesterday when I went to vote,” she said.Watts worried that women who use maiden names or hyphenated names may be surprised at the polls. “I don’t think most women know that this is going to create a problem,” the judge said. “That their maiden name is on their driver’s license, which was mandated in 1964 when I got married, and this. And so why would I want to use a provisional ballot when I’ve been voting regular ballot for the last 49 years?”

Good News in the Virginia Governor’s Race

Good news from my birth state.

It looks like the super conservative Tea Party favorite and hero of the Religious Wrong, Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Ken Cuccinelli, is going down hard….

This is especially telling given that Democratic Candidate Terry McAuliffe is far from a perfect candidate himself.  The leading state news paper, the Richmond Times Dispatch declined to endorse this year…

This is great news for Democrats overall and especially in Virginia!

From PoliticsUSA.com:

The Virginia governor’s race that some thought might shed light on the leanings of the 2014 electorate has turned into a rout as Democrat Terry McAuliffe leads Ken Cuccinelli By 18 points.

Things are so bad for Virginia Republicans that GOP pollster Rasmussen has McAuliffe leading Cuccinelli 50%-33%. Libertarian Robert Sarvis is third at 8%. In case you don’t trust Rasmussen polls, and you shouldn’t, PPP has a new poll of early voters that shows McAuliffe leading Cuccinelli by 18 points with early voters.

Britney Spears Unplugged….No, Please.

Here is the final proof that “stars” like Britney Spears are created by the record companies in the sound mixing room….

No wonder the poor kid has so many emotional problems….trying to live up to what she clearly isn’t.

This is supposedly her “live” mic feed while she is lip-sincing through her show in Vegas.

Let’s never ask her not to lip sync again.  In fact, like me, let’s just not listen to her at all.

There are enough true artist who really can sing without these manufactured “singers” like Brit Brit and, I strongly suspect, Justin Bieber.

Arnold Lobbies for White House Run

Just what we need….another Republican Movie Star in the White House.

The good news is that 2/3 of the Senate and 2/3 of the House can’t agree on anything, so as long as the Courts don’t do anything crazy, we are safe.

And I still think Hillary can take him down anyway…..

From Page Six at the New York Post:

Action star and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been lobbying for support to change the law to allow him to run for president in 2016, Page Six has exclusively learned.

We’re told Ahnold has been openly talking about his political ambitions while in New York to promote his new movie with Sylvester Stallone, “Escape Plan.”

One source said: “Schwarzenegger has been talking openly about working on getting the constitutional rules changed so he can run for president in 2016. He is ready to file legal paperwork to challenge the rules.”

Arnie was born in Austria, and the US Constitution prevents foreign-born citizens from holding the nation’s top job. Any amendment to the Constitution must be approved by two-thirds majority in the House and the Senate.

Hairy Legs and Hobbit Feet

I just got home from dinner at a nice restaurant and it happened again;  I was forced to look at hairy legs and hobbit feet while I ate.

This also frequently happens at the theatre and I don’t mean seeing “Lord of the Rings” or “Hobbit” movies, I mean live performance theatre….

I’m talking about middle-aged men who have forgotten how to dress to go out in public.  They seem to think they can wear flip-flops or sandals and shorts any and every where.  Like it’s a uniform or something…

I can excuse the younger generation for not knowing or being taught any better.  I’ll blame their parents for their failure to understand that one dresses differently for dinner at a nice restaurant or when going to the theatre than one does to mow the grass or to wash the car.

However,  if you are over 40, and certainly if you are over 50,  you were taught better.  You know better and you are too lazy and socially inept to fix the situation…

It seems your manners and sense of dressing appropriately are lost in the 21st century….and I hate to break it to you, but you really don’t look very good wearing what you are wearing.

Also remember, what may be a cute, casual, even grunge look that works for a young guy, only makes you look poor, socially illiterate and potentially homeless.  If your wife, partner or girlfriend is well-dressed and nicely pulled together, it’s even worse.  Then it looks like they are taking an inmate from the home out for a night on the town.

Since no one else seems to be willing to point this out, I will.

Here are a few very simple rules:

  1. If the meal costs more than $15 and the restaurant does not have a drive thru window or if the restaurant has cloth napkins and/or tablecloths, you must wear long pants and real shoes.
  2. If real actors are on stage, especially theatre in the round, you must wear long pants and real shoes.  And not kick off your shoes during the show…
  3. If you are going to church, especially for a wedding or a funeral, you must at least wear long pants and real shoes.
  4. If you are wearing a shirt that buttons up the front and has a rounded shirt tail, tuck the damn shirt into your pants.  It was not designed to be worn outside your pants and it looks tacky and sloppy for you to do so.
  5. Backward baseball caps.  Does anyone still wear backwards baseball caps?  As one person commented when the Paul Ryan gym pictures came out:  “The only reason to wear a baseball cap backwards is if you are planning to give someone a blow job.”  Enough said.
  6. And, in closing, if you wear any kind of hat or cap, take the damn thing off when you go inside a building.

These are just the basics.  I’ll let the rest slide for now…I’ve vented.

There is a lot more to be said,  but if the male population would just follow these few simple rules, the world would start to be a much better and more attractive place. Or at least it would be a start in that direction….

And I could stop contemplating buying a taser….

NC Governor McCrory Spent $19K To Remodel Office Restroom

He just can’t seem to stay out of the toilet….

After this last legislative session, I guess we should be glad he spends so much time focusing on bathrooms.  There is only so much damage he can do there…..

I also find it infinitely amusing he even blames the Democrats for his bathroom issues….

From the Raleigh News and Observer:

North Carolina taxpayers spent about $19,000 to remodel a small restroom in Gov. Pat McCrory’s office at the State Capitol over the summer following complaints about a bad smell.

McCrory canceled plans last week to spend $230,000 in state funds to remodel six bathrooms in the historic Executive Mansion in Raleigh following public outcry. The Associated Press reported the work was to include more than $100,000 in new fixtures, marble and tile for McCrory’s master bathroom.

McCrory spokeswoman Kim Genardo said the old Capitol restroom required new paint, tile and repairs last July because of poor maintenance under the Republican governor’s predecessor, a Democrat.

“We spent $19,156 to replace broken tiles, flooring and make extensive repairs to plumbing that were not fixed by the previous administration,” Genardo said. “Additionally, a pungent odor seeped into the governor’s office, which made it an embarrassment to host company CEOs and guests at the State Capitol.”
