Happy Birthday, “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

The film version of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” opened 50 years ago today, October 5, 1961.

I’ve always loved this movie….

I had to go to Tiffany’s on my first trip to New York just to pay homage to this film and it’s star Audrey Hepburn.  I even had to have my picture take where she stood.

I’m much more blase’ and world-weary now, but I always think of this film whenever I’m on Fifth Avenue and go by Tiffany’s.  It was one of the films that formed my childhood image of New York.

I’m still looking for the New York of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

And I always will be….

And the original trailer:

And here’s a great blog entry about the film from Gary Susman at Moviefone:

Happy Birthday, Holly Golightly….

And Sabrina Fairchild, Maid Marian, Eliza Dolittle, Princesss Ann, Sister Luke, Regina Lampert and Joanna Wallace ….

By that I mean, Happy Birthday Audrey Hepburn.  She would have been 82 years old today…

There will never be another actress like her…

One of the things that always struck me about her as an actress was how well she listened….

She wasn’t a scene-stealer, she just quietly made an indelible impression.  You couldn’t take your eyes off her…

She was many things…Beautiful-inside and out.  Stylish-and style setter.   Elegant, yet down to earth…

She survived the horrors of World War II to conquer Broadway and Hollywood….

And walked away from the top of the box office to raise her children….

She came back as an occasional actress, but a full time goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations.

And she’ll alway live on film:

“Moon River” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” are 50

Whenever Politics give me the Mean Reds, there’s nothing like an Audrey Hepburn film to take the edge off…

This was one of her best.  Hard to believe it was made 50 years ago…

It’s still one of my favorites…
