Obama: Commander in Chief Must Support Gay Troops

Good for him.  It’s about time he took a stronger stance both against the Republicans and for Gay Rights.

Admittedly, he had to be pushed- and pushed hard- by the Gay community to actually take some action, but he took it.

Now, I’m interested to see how fast his views on Gay Marriage continue to “evolve”……

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama sharply rebuked his Republican rivals, saying anyone who wants to be commander in chief must support the entire U.S. military, including gay service members.

A combative Obama on Saturday criticized Republican presidential candidates for staying silent when the crowd at a recent debate booed a gay soldier who asked a question of the contenders via videotape.

“You want to be commander in chief? You can start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient,” Obama said during remarks at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest gay rights organization.

Referencing the boos at the Sept. 22 Republican debate, he said: “We don’t believe in standing silent when that happens.”

Obama touted his administration’s efforts to repeal the military’s ban on openly gay service members, as well as his orders to the Justice Department to stop enforcing a law defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

But, as expected, Obama stopped short of endorsing gay marriage, saying only that “every single American deserves to be treated equally in the eyes of the law.”

Obama has said his views on gay marriage are “evolving”, but for now he only supports civil union.

Obama’s position on gay marriage has become a sore point for some gay activists who say they’re otherwise pleased with the president’s handling of issues important to them. Some of the president’s backers say he could be wasting a chance to energize key segments of his base, including young people, if he doesn’t publicly advocate for gay marriage.

“If he doesn’t, he could be missing an opportunity to mobilize voters who need to be inspired to vote for him,” said Doug Hattaway, a Democratic consultant.

The president’s position on gay marriage puts him at odds with some of his supporters. Numerous recent polls suggest a slight majority of Americans favor giving same-sex couples the right to marry, and support is highest among Democrats and young people.

Obama has acknowledged that public support for gay marriage is building. During a meeting with liberal bloggers last October, he said “it’s pretty clear where the trend lines are going.”

The Revolutionary Costume for Today

Being a Gay man who is both a Southern boy and a W&L boy, I spend a lot of time worrying about clothes and appearances….

I try not to, but I can’t help it….

When I went to my first Gay Pride Rally/March years ago, my biggest worry was what to wear?  Especially, since I didn’t even own a t-shirt back then-and still rarely wear jeans.  Ralph Lauren seemed a bit much for the event, but I think I wore it anyway….

And we somehow ended up marching with “The Women of the Land” who were Lesbians who were into simple living in a natural environment.  They were not wearing Ralph, but they were real sweet and we got along just fine….

Anyway, here is some  advice from Little Edie from “Grey Gardens”, the musical.  This was a flawed show, but I still saw it twice in New York.  Once off-Broadway and again on Broadway.  Christine Ebersole really earned her Tony….

Majority Oppose North Carolina Gay Marriage Ban Amendment

Well, this is mostly good news….

A majority of North Carolina residents oppose a proposed amendment to the North Carolina state constitution that would ban gay marriage, Raleigh-based WRAL reported.

According to an Elon University Poll released Friday, 56 percent of residents oppose the amendment lawmakers earlier this month okayed for ratification by voters in May.

Thirty-nine percent of respondents say they support the measure, a drop of 4 percentage points since March, 2009.

The survey of 594 people conducted between September 25 – 29 has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.02 percentage points.

While respondents don’t want to enshrine the state’s prohibition against marriage equality in the constitution, a majority also object to gay marriage. Only 33 percent of respondents said they support full marriage rights for gay couples, an increase of 12 percentage points since March, 2009.

“The ballot referendum that would ban same-sex marriage will be the issue to watch this year,” Mileah Kromer, assistant director of the Elon University Poll, said in a statement. “With North Carolinians so divided on this issue, expect a tough battle over the next few months as both sides attempt to sway public opinion in their favor.”

The proposed amendment would bar the state from legalizing marriage, civil unions and possibly domestic partnerships for gay and lesbian couples.

Twenty-nine percent of those surveyed said they support civil unions or domestic partnerships, but not full marriage, for gay couples.

Nancy Grace Wardrobe Malfunction: Breast Petals to the Rescue

If I wasn’t already Gay, I’m sure seeing Nancy Grace’s breasts or nipples on television would have done it….

Some things should never be inflicted on the viewing public no matter how much they deserve it.

Things like Snookie and Nancy Grace should be banned from viewing due to their negative cultural impacts on the masses.

I’ve never seen this show.  I avoid Nancy Grace (aka:  The Most Uptight White Woman Who Ever Lived)  like the plague, so I don’t know what happened….

And I don’t want to know what happened….

And I don’t care what happened….

Just keep Nancy Grace and her TaTa’s away from me!

Nancy Grace has added two more words to the denial of her much talked about wardrobe malfunction: breast petals.

Hours after Elisabetta Canalis and her partner were sent home from this season’s “Dancing with the Stars,” Grace took to Twitter to address her nip slip incident.

Nancy Grace took to Twitter to address her wardrobe malfunction incident, citing the use of of “breast petals.”

“Evidence re my alleged ‘wardrobe malfunction which I vehemently deny: Breast Petals & industrial strength bra,” Grace wrote, attaching a photo of said petals.

The petals, also known as pasties and nipple covers and usually made from silicon or nylon tricot material, are used to provide a smoother look, in addition to or in place of a regular bra.

Despite the use of her breast petals, Grace, 51, apparently showed a little too much skin during her jive performance with partner Tristan MacManus on Monday. Still, the television host and journalist stands by her claim.

“I was not flashing anybody . . . I think that when I did that backwards thing, there was a seismic shift, but I do not think there was a wardrobe malfunction,” Grace told Access Hollywood.

Happy Birthday, Freddie Mercury

Queen’s Freddie Mercury would have been 65 years old today.

I was never a fanatic fan of Queen or of Freddie Mercury, but I did appreciate their music and thought he was one hell of an entertainer with one hell of a voice.

Unfortunately, he died of AIDS in 1991 and we lost that great entertainer.  One can only imagine what he would be doing today.

Here’s Queen’s Official Birthday Video Tribute:

Republican Senator Makes Excuse For Explicit Nude Photo

Here we go again….

From The Advocate.com:

Republican Puerto Rican senator Roberto Arango won’t say he didn’t take a very explicit nude photo that has surfaced on his alleged profile on gay hookup site Grindr, reports Gawker.

Arango hasn’t confirmed or denied that he took the photo or that the Grindr profile belongs to him. “You know I’ve been losing weight,” Aango says. “As I shed that weight, I’ve been taking pictures. I don’t remember taking this particular picture but I’m not gonna say I didn’t take it. I’d tell you if I remembered taking the picture but I don’t.”

Arango, who is a member of the Puerto Rican Senate, was vice-chair to George W. Bush’s 2004 Puerto Rico campaign

Ann Coulter Joins Gay Conservative Group

No!!!   Go away!!!!   We don’t want you!!!!

At first, I thought maybe she was finally getting ready to come out as a Male to Female Transsexual…

Guess that is yet to come…

We still don’t want her…

And this further proves she has no grasp of reality- except to tailor it to her own self-promotion….

Sad that this sad little group is giving her another venue….

Right-wing provocateur Ann Coulter has joined the advisory board of GOProud, a small Washington, D.C.-based organization that represents gay conservatives, the group announced Tuesday.

Coulter has long been a supporter of the advocacy group, which claims the support of a string of high-profile conservatives, including anti-tax activist Grover Norquist, online media mogul Andrew Breitbart, and Republican strategist Roger Stone, all of whom serve on the organization’s advisory board.

“I am honored to serve in this capacity on GOProud’s Advisory Council, and look forward to being the queen of fabulous,” Coulter said in a statement.

Coulter headlined GOProud’s first national meeting last fall, where she sparred with attendees over gay marriage, a policy she personally opposes.

“Gay rights advocate” might not be the first thing that comes to mind for most people when they think of Coulter–who calls herself “the right-wing Judy Garland”–but she says that she has a secret gay fan base.

“I didn’t expect that so many gays would be such huge fans of mine, but yet, it’s true,” Coulter said during a recent interview with C-SPAN. “I think all gays who were born gay are overwhelmingly conservative–maybe apolitical–and all those angry gays, causing trouble for everybody, I don’t even think they were born gay, I just think they were angry at their fathers.”

The group’s existence has caused a stir within the conservative movement, which is grappling with whether to accept organizations that identify as gay. The American Conservative Union decided last month to reject GOProud as a co-sponsor of its annual Conservative Political Action Conference, after several groups boycotted the 2011 convention in protest of GOProud’s presence. The chairman of the American Conservative Union met with GOProud’s executive director, Jimmy LaSalvia, and its chairman, Christopher Barron, last week.

The Gayest Work Out Video of All Time….

From the 1980’s of course….

It’s kind of like a Village People Workout- or something….

I guess not everyone was doing the Jane Fonda Videos….

I wouldn’t know anything about this…

My idea of a workout back in the 1980’s was mixing a drink and lighting a cigarette multiple times a night while trying not to fall off a bar stool…

And I looked marvelous!

Today is the first day of legal Gay Marriage in New York.  What better way to celebrate than with a little Barbra Streisand from “Funny Girl”?

If I’m going to be a cliché, why not go all the way?
