Mendacity

Frankly, I’m pretty fed up with this election season-especially with Mitt Romney and his lies.

He is such a blatant and unashamed liar- the like of which I have never seen before outside of a used car lot…

I can’t quite believe people are letting him get away with it….

And it seems to be becoming the modus operandi of the modern Republican Party.

I can’t decide if people are not informed, lazy or just don’t care anymore….

Lying- or Mendacity-  has just become an accepted  part of our daily lives….

Made me think of this famous scene from “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”.

Teen Denied Eagle Scout for Being Gay

This is another example of institutional bullying…

This kid was involved in Scouting all his life.   Now, just as he has earned their highest level of achievement, they are turning on him because he is Gay.

This is the kind of kid who ought to be praised, not put down…

Please read the article, below, from RawStory.com and then sign his Mom’s petition at this link:

http://www.change.org/petitions/boy-scouts-don-t-let-your-anti-gay-policy-deny-my-son-his-eagle-award

The Boy Scouts of America on Thursday said that they had denied a gay California teen Eagle Scout honors because he had not lived up to the principle of “duty to God” with his sexual orientation. The Scoutmaster for Troop 212 in Moraga decided that Ryan Andresen was “no longer eligible for membership in Scouting” after they learned he was gay, even though he had completed all of his requirements for Eagle Scout, including building a “tolerance wall” to honor those that had been bullied like himself.“I want everyone to know that [the Eagle award] should be based on accomplishment, not your sexual orientation,” Ryan Andresen’s mother, Karen, told NBC News. “Ryan entered Scouts when he was six years old and in no way knew what he was.”“I think right now the scoutmaster is sending Ryan the message that he’s not a valued human being and I want Ryan to know that he is valued … and that people care about him,” she added.Karen Andresen said that the Eagle Scout decision was “a total shock” because the scoutmaster was aware that her son had come out in July and had said nothing.

Glenn Beck: God Put Romney Behind in Polls to Prove It’s a Miracle When He Wins

Whatever….

From TheRawStory.com:

Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck says that GOP hopeful Mitt Romney’s poll numbers have fallen as a part of a plan from God to make it obvious to the American people that divine intervention was responsible when Republicans take the White House in November.

Republican Congressional Aide Arrested for Assaulting Lindsay Lohan

This is just too rich- and trashy- for words…

A Republican Congressional Aid partying with Lindsay Lohan and assaulting her?

The Conservatives and the Religious Right are going to love this….

Or they may just be happy, at least this time, it’s a Republican misbehaving with a woman….

This time…..

From RawStory.com:

Christian LaBella, who is listed as a legislative correspondent in the office of Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) and who staff confirmed “has worked” for the Congressman, was arrested Sunday morning on charges that he assaulted actress Lindsay Lohan after a night of partying. The charges were dropped and the arrest voided on Sunday afternoon, reportedly because Lohan did not received medical attention.

The dispute allegedly arose after a night of clubbing in New York City when Lohan discovered that LaBella had taken pictures of her on his cell phone and attempted to delete them. Lohan reportedly told police that he threw her on the bed and scratched her, after which she fled her room at the W Hotel in Union Square. She then apparently told police that LaBella attempted to choke her outside of her hotel room, and she pulled the fire alarm.

LaBella was picked up by police upon exiting the stairwell.

‘Honey Boo Boo’ is More Popular Than Republicans

This is a little dated, but I just saw it…

I really try to pretend I don’t know about Honey Boo Boo as her whole show/concept really scares me….

Funny….I would assume Honey Boo Boo and the GOP drew from the same Red State demographics, but she’s the clear winner….

It’s sad when more people want to see Honey Boo Boo Child than the Republicans’ convention.  Sad for the GOP….

Of course, she seems much more real than Mittens…

And maybe the working class folks are finally catching on to the GOP lies and tuning them out for something else….

Honey Boo Boo has become more relevant than the Republican Presidential Nominee….

Funny world….

From ABC News:

Mitt Romney and company couldn’t beat the allure of a self-proclaimed “redneck” family. According to Nielsen overnight ratings, TLC’s controversial reality show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” drew 2.9  million viewers Wednesday night at 10 p.m. In second place: Fox News’ coverage of the Republican National Convention, to which 1.2 million adults tuned in.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, “Honey Boo Boo” scored more viewers in the key 18- to 49-year-old  demographic than the RNC coverage on any one of the  individual broadcast networks.

Rest in Peace, Andy Williams

I can’t let Andy Williams’ passing go by without comment…

He and his music and TV show were so much a part of my childhood….

His Christmas Album is still one of my favorites…

And his version of “Moon River” is the definitive version of the 1960’s- except for Audrey Hepburn in the film.

And the gracious way he stood by his ex-wife, and the mother of his children,  Claudine Longet during her scandalous murder trial…

Even if he was a Republican, he was friends with Bobby and Ethel Kennedy….

He was a Gentleman…

I’ll miss him….

Here is a link to a great remembrance from Suzi Parker in the Washington Post:

After Nearly A Decade Of Declines, Manufacturing Jobs Begin Rebound

This is some really good news….

Manufacturing jobs are middle class jobs with benefits that I was starting to fear were gone for good.

This will really help people feel better about the economy as these jobs beat the hell out of the retail, temp and other low wage jobs that have been the recent sources of job growth.

From Thinkprogress.org:

After nearly a decade of steep declines, American manufacturing jobs have begun to rebound since the beginning of the Obama administration, as the slide that occurred under President George W. Bush and during the Great Recession has largely been reversed.

Manufacturing slumped in the first year of the Obama administration as the nation dealt with the effects of the recession, but since then, manufacturing has posted job gains in all but three months since February 2010, as Bloomberg Government reports:

The BGOV Barometer shows U.S. factory positions have grown since early 2010, arresting a slide that began toward the end of the 1990s. It’s the best showing since the era of Bill Clinton, the only president in the last 30 years to leave office with more factory jobs than when he began.

The Party’s Over: Paul Ryan vs. The Stench

Sounds like it’s love on the rocks for Paul and Mitt…. and it was one short, unhappy affair.

I’m reading more and more on inside turmoil in the Romney campaign and how the stench of death is beginning to be evident to many GOP insiders….

But Paul Ryan really seems to be getting a little bitter about this…

Paulie seems to be starting to realize he might not have made the smartest career move to step into the limelight with Mittens…

He’s really sounding more and more like the spoiled frat boy he is….

At least in this satirical article from Roger Simon at Politico.com:

“I hate to say this, but if Ryan wants to run for national office again, he’ll probably have to wash the stench of Romney off of him,” Craig Robinson, a former political director of the Republican Party of Iowa, told The New York Times on Sunday.

Coming from a resident of Iowa, a state where people are polite even to soybeans, this was a powerful condemnation of the Republican nominee.

Though Ryan had already decided to distance himself from the floundering Romney campaign, he now feels totally uninhibited. Reportedly, he has been marching around his campaign bus, saying things like, “If Stench calls, take a message” and “Tell Stench I’m having finger sandwiches with Peggy Noonan and will text him later.”

Even before the stench article appeared, there was a strong sign that Ryan was freeing himself from the grips of the Romney campaign. It began after his disastrous appearance on Friday before AARP in New Orleans. Ryan delivered his remarks in the style dictated by his Romney handlers: Stand behind the lectern, read the speech as written and don’t stray from the script.

Senior Citizen Support for Romney Crumbles.

I’m tempted to wish the election was today…

But the trends just keep getting better and better for President Obama…

Seniors are usually the most reliable Republican voters, but apparently not this time…

At this rate, by the election, only the Koch Brothers will be voting for Romney….

From Reuters:

New polling by Reuters/Ipsos indicates that during the past two weeks – since just after the Democratic National Convention – support for Romney among Americans age 60 and older has crumbled, from a 20-point lead over Democratic President Barack Obama to less than 4 points.

Romney’s double-digit advantages among older voters on the issues of healthcare and Medicare – the nation’s health insurance program for those over 65 and the disabled – also have evaporated, and Obama has begun to build an advantage in both areas.

Obama leads Romney among NASCAR Fans

Interesting….

This is one demographic group most folks assumed would not be supporting the President….

Seems Mitt’s positions, personae- not to mention comments about the poncho’s and NASCAR fashions- have not endeared him to these folks, either….

I’m wondering what demographic group, aside from old, rich, white men  Romney is winning now?

From Yahoo.com:

Mitt Romney’s recent slide in several polls, including those in the battleground states of Ohio, Virginia and Florida, is troubling enough for the GOP. But, now the Republican nominee appears to be trailing President Barack Obama among a traditionally conservative constituency: NASCAR fans.

Obama leads Romney 49 to 42 percent among NASCAR enthusiasts, according to a new Zogby poll by JZ Analytics.

As the liberal blog PoliticusUSA.com pointed out, Romney was booed at the Daytona 500 in February during a campaign trip ahead of Super Tuesday.
