Poll: Just 12% happy with Congress

I want to know what’s wrong with the 12% who are “happy” with Congress!  There aren’t that many rich people….

It will be interesting to see how this plays out by the time the elections roll around next year.  Either people are going to throw up their hands and stay home- thinking it doesn’t matter if they vote- which is what the GOP wants or people are going to throw the bums out…

Who knows which way it will break?

From CBS:

In the midst of a bleak economic landscape and after a bruising battle over the federal budget deficit, approval of Congress now matches its all-time low, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.

Just 12 percent of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing – the same as the lowest percentage recorded in this poll, reached in October 2008, right before the November elections.

Dissatisfaction with Congress cuts across party lines. Republicans, Democrats, and independents all overwhelmingly disapprove of the job Congress is doing.

Though most Americans disapprove of both parties in Congress, they disapprove of Republicans more. Seventy-two percent of Americans disapprove of the job Republicans in Congress are doing, compared to 63 percent who disapprove of the Democrats in Congress.

Among Democrats, more approve than disapprove of the job Democrats in Congress are doing. That is reversed for Republicans – more of them disapprove than approve of the job members of their own party are doing in Congress. Independents disapprove of both parties in Congress.

In keeping with Congress’ dismal review, just 6 percent of registered voters think most members deserve re-election – the lowest percentage ever in CBS News Polls during the past 20 years, and a lower percentage than the 9 percent who thought so right before the 2010 midterms.

(Credit: CBS News/NYT Poll) Americans are usually more positive when assessing their own representative in Congress.

That’s true now, too – 33 percent say their representative deserves re election – but nearly six in 10 registered voters don’t think their own representative deserves re-election. That percentage is close to the highest found in CBS News Polls.

Republicans = Casey Anthony

More great Bill Maher.

Why is it that it seems that only those who agree with him, listen to him?

I wish all the people who freaked out over the Casey Anthony verdict would pay similar attention to the murder of the Middle Class by the Republicans. It’s a tragedy that one little girl died, but I never quite got the mass hysteria that America felt over that one case.

It’s a greater tragedy that the Republicans are getting away with destroying the Middle Class-and those they are killing still vote for them.

As P.T. Barnum said, “There is a sucker born every minute.”

Michele Bachmann Claims Her Hurricane Comments Were Only a Joke

Yeah, right….

More proof she is not only a nutcase, but a dishonest nutcase who won’t even stand by her crazy statements after she makes them….

This is why she can’t keep anyone on her staff for very long….

From The Guardian (UK):

The Republican White House hopeful Michele Bachmann has insisted she was joking when she said a hurricane and quake were God’s warning to Washington, in an effort to control the damage from her latest controversial comments.

The Tea Party favourite raised eyebrows with a weekend remark to supporters in Florida that Hurricane Irene, which killed at least 24 people and left millions without power, and an east coast earthquake were God’s way of telling US politicians to cut spending and fix the budget deficit.

“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ ” Bachmann said at a campaign event in Sarasota on Sunday.

“Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.”

Bachmann, among the top three candidates seen to have a chance to win the Republican nomination and take on President Barack Obama next year, made similar comments elsewhere in Florida on Saturday, drawing some laughs from her audience.

When the remarks began drawing attention, she went into damage control. “Of course I was being humorous when I said that. It would be absurd to think it was anything else,” Bachmann said on Monday on a campaign stop in Miami. “I am a person who loves humour, I have a great sense of humour.”

Some GOP Donors Think Bachmann is Jewish

What the hell????

Don’t these folks read anything?  Or at least watch television? How can they not know Michele Bachmann is a crazed, Right-Wing, Evangelical Christian nutcase?

Of course if these folks are donating to the GOP they have to be either nuts themselves or Rich and selfish or ignorant anyway….

Some Jewish donors are telling fundraisers for Mitt Romney that while they like him, they’d rather open their wallets for the “Jewish candidate,” Michele Bachmann, who they don’t realize is actually a Lutheran, the New York Post reports.

“Some in Romney’s camp have been wondering whether Bachmann and her allies are pushing the ‘Jewish’ rumor to help their own fund-raising… She has enjoyed strong popularity among Jewish voters and often talks about her stay on a kibbutz during the summer of 1974, when she was a teenager.”

Never-fail prediction system shows 2012 win for Obama

Very interesting article from RawStory.com

Nothing is a sure thing, but I’ll take anything that eases my fear of a GOP win!  I can’t imagine what they would do to the country if they were to be back in control of the Presidency at this point.  They are even crazier now than during the Bush years.

No matter what issues we may have with President Obama or his leadership style, he is by far the best option- for Democrats and the Country.

American University professor Allan Lichtman is on a winning streak spanning nearly three decades — one that President Barack Obama might have an interest in seeing Lichtman extend.

Lichtman created a formula that has correctly predicted the winner of each election since 1984, beginning with the reelection of President Ronald Reagan, U.S. News and World Report reported. The formula that predicted Obama’s 2008 win is again showing that the incumbent president will win the election, despite the term-low approval rating Obama has been maintaining for past weeks.

“Even if I am being conservative, I don’t see how Obama can lose,” Lichtman said.

His model, described in his book The Keys to the White House, relies on 13 “keys” that gauge the performance of the sitting president’s party. If six or more of these aspects are in the party’s favor, the candidate they present will win.

Nine of the keys fall in Obama’s favor, Lichtman said — more than enough for reelection.

Created in 1981 and first tested against the 1984 election, Lichtman’s model hasn’t failed yet.

Even in 1992, when President George H.W. Bush was riding a wave of popularity and widely expected to win, Lichtman thought otherwise.

“I got a call from this woman with a thick southern drawl,” Lichtman said. “It was Clinton’s special assistant. She wanted to know if it was true that a Democrat could win. I assured her it was and I sent Clinton a copy of my book and a memo and the rest is history.”

Peter Kinder, Missouri Republican Lt. Governor, Embroiled In Stripper Scandal

Don’t you just love those fiscally Conservative, Family Values Tea Party Republicans?

I think this guy just heard the “party” part….

Hypocrites….

Click the HuffingtonPost link to see the video:

Peter Kinder, the Lieutenant Governor of Missouri, is at the center of racy allegations.

St Louis area stripper Tammy Chapman says that Kinder pursued an inappropriate relationship with her, and was a regular at a local strip bar.

Kinder is a single man, but as a Tea Party-backed political, the revelations do little to endear him to that conservative group.

The L.A. Times reports that some of Kinder’s political allies have deserted him.

Southwest Missouri GOP committeeman Tim Garrison also withdrew support for Kinder, saying Kinder’s claim that he only stopped by the pantless bar to use the bathroom “do not pass the laugh test,” according to a letter obtained by the Post-Dispatch. Kinder says he has not been to a strip club in 10 years, but that didn’t sway Garrison.

Congress Has an Answer for Public Wrath: Eliminate Town Halls

Remember a couple of years ago, there were all those staged town halls with Tea Baggers ranting against health care reform?

That scared the Dems for life…

Well, the Republicans aren’t about to let that happen to them.  They are canceling their August Recess Town Halls or making people pay to attend.  So much for going back home and talking to the constituents they allegedly serve.  They aren’t about to allow those “YouTube” moments to occur or be captured.  If they do happen to have a town hall, most Reps are barring cameras and recording devices.

Paul Ryan  is just having people evicted from his office and/or arrested.

What was that Hillary said back in the 1990’s about a “vast right-wing conspiracy”?

From MotherJones.com:

Congress approval rating—currently 13 percent, according to Gallup—is at a historic low, and its disapproval rating, at 84 percent, is at a historic high. Many Americans eagerly awaited Congress August recess so they could use town hall meetings and other public appearances to  give their elected officials a piece of their mind. Theres just one problem: most of Congress isnt scheduling any town halls. None. Zilch. The think tank No Labels called the offices of all 430 active members of Congress and found that 60 percent of them werent scheduling town hall meetings. According to No Labels analysis, more Democrats than Republicans are shutting themselves off from their constituents: 68 percent of Dems and 51 percent of Republicans hadnt planned a town hall during Congress weeks-long summer break. Click here to see if your representative or senator is planning a town hall or not.Not to be ignored, angry citizens, at least in one high profile district, have taken action to get some attention. Last week, a handful of unemployed constituents organized a sit-in in GOP Rep. Paul Ryans office in Kenosha, Wisconsin, while 100 protesters picketed outside. Ryan in particular has drawn heaps of criticism for his plan to eliminate Medicare as we know it and refashion Medicaid into a state-based block grant program. In the end, Ryans staff had police remove the protesters from the office, which was done peacefully.Paul Ryan has made himself available during the recess—but for a price. Thats right: Ryan and other lawmakers are now charging constituents to attend public events and ask them questions. Ryan wanted $15 a head. Rep. Dan Quayle R-Ariz., Politico reported, is charging $35 from attendees who want to ask him questions over a catered lunch at a Phoenix law firm. Rep. Chip Cravaack R-Minn. also wants money—$10 a person—to attend an his event, which is hosted by the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Why the ticket price? At the very least, its a way to weed out the unemployed and financially burdened, who are also the most likely to give lawmakers an earful for the dismal state of the labor market and sluggish economic recovery. As Scott Page, a twice laid-off worker who participated in the sit-in inside Paul Ryans office, told a local blogger, “I dont have $15 to ask Rep. Ryan questions, so I guess this is the only means I have to talk to him.”

Perry Dismisses Bush Comparisons

Yep, another example of Governor Goodhair’s striking wit and intelligence….

From Taegen Goddard’s Political Wire:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said it was unfair to make comparisons between himself and former president George W. Bush, CNN reports, noting that “I am Rick Perry and he is George Bush. And our records are quite different.”

Asked what the biggest difference is, Perry responded: “I went to Texas A&M. He went to Yale.”

He did not answer when pressed to name a policy difference.

Why Rick Perry is headed to the White House: CNN

Scary, Scary article from James Moore at CNN.com….

Governor Goodhair is by far the most frightening of the possible GOP nominees.  He’s ruthless, campaigns very well, is telegenic and from the State that  gave us George W. Bush.  I also suspect he is the pick of the Corporations and the Rich who don’t think Romney or any of the other lunatics can beat President Obama.  They also want to use his religious zealotry to use the Religious Right again.

I can see how they are thinking:  Supporter of Corporations and the Rich.  Check.  Christian Conservative- at least on face value- check.  Looks good on TV and print media.  Check.  And so on….

I think Mr Moore has some valid points, but there is a lot about Rick Perry that has not yet been exposed to the national media….

However, if he is the nominee, it will be the nastiest, most brutal Presidential campaign we have ever seen….

My gut tells me he will fizzle out as time goes by, but I could be wrong as well…

Editor’s note: James Moore is a Texas-based Emmy award-winning former national TV news correspondent and co-author of the best-seller, “Bush’s Brain.”

Austin, Texas (CNN) — As a resident of Texas for 36 years, I keep wondering why the rest of the nation pays any attention to our political and cultural absurdities and yet still chooses Texans as presidents. Our most revered historical moment, the Alamo, was arguably a mass suicide. The slaughter in San Antonio was followed by a massacre at Goliad, the fall of the Confederacy to Union forces, and later by the Houston Astros. Texas has a legacy of losing.

None of this apparently matters, though, because America is beginning the process of electing another Texan to be president. Gigantic tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, a trumped up war and a ruined economy from the last Texan seem incapable of dissuading supporters of Rick Perry.

His Saturday speech in South Carolina will make clear that he is entering the race for the White House and will spawn the ugliest and most expensive presidential race in U.S. history, and he will win. A C and D student, who hates to govern, loves to campaign, and barely has a sixth grader’s understanding of economics, will lead our nation into oblivion.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Wall Street Crashes, London Burns

As always, fascinating thoughts from Frank Rich…

And I saw the McQueen show at the Metropolitan Museum in New York in June  and I was amazed at the crowds.  People waited hours to get in.  I’m a member of the Met so I skipped the lines and that’s the only reason I saw it.  I don’t do lines of more than a reasonable duration…It was fascinating and totally theatrical, but I could not understand why so many people were fascinated.

Now I know.  It was a sign of the end approaching…

And, I always knew “The Phantom of the Opera” would lead to the downfall of civilization…

Frank Rich in New York Magazine (Emphasis is mine) :

I think I’m moving from anger to dread, too. We pay attention to the market because it feels like a sport (scored in clear-cut numbers) and because one way or the other we know we will be affected by it, whether we own shares or not. I am completely unprescient about the market — though no less so than, say, S&P, Geithner, Bernanke, Greenspan, and all the others who failed to see the last crash and/or this one coming — but last Thursday, the morning just before the big drop began, I had a premonition. (And I am not by and large superstitious.) I was catching up (at the last minute) with the McQueen extravaganza at the Met. That same morning the Times had a front-page story about the rebound in luxury retailing. Once I entered the McQueen show, I was struck by how the installation, with its smoke and mirrors and S&M touches, looked like a cross between Phantom of the Opera**  and the orgy scene in Eyes Wide Shut** . Whatever else the McQueen show was about, it’s about decadence — and about luxury goods beyond the reach of 99.9 percent of the throngs gawking at them. Something about the discrepancy between the opulence and the masses thronging barricades to get in gave me a premonition that a crash was on its way. Maybe it’s because I associate the crash of 1987 with the opening of Phantom on Broadway in early 1988. Conspicuous over-the-top decadence in America always seems to lead to a bad end.
