John Edwards’ Mistress Rielle Hunter Apologizes– And Has A Revised Book Coming Out

Oh, god….will these people never go away?

John Edwards’ home and career wrecking bimbo, Rielle Hunter’s first book flopped, so she is trying again….

Sorry, babe, your 15 minutes are up.

Please go away quietly.

Here is an excerpt and a link to more of her self serving flagellation at The Huffington Post….

And then instead of apologizing when I should have, I went on to hurt more people by writing a book. I truly did not realize at that time how damaged I was and because of that, when I wrote my book I made more mistakes, ones I feel horrible about.

My publisher came up with the idea of me going through my book and annotating all of my regrets and mistakes. I liked that idea. I thought it was innovative and interesting, but of course the actual execution of that idea turned out to be excruciating. Owning your past mistakes is no day at the beach but I do believe it is an important endeavor to undertake.

Republicans Aren’t The ‘Daddy Party’ Anymore – Business Insider

To see how far the GOP has fallen, this is an article in “The Business Insider” by Josh Barro.

It’s an interesting familial analogy to the situation….

Here is a brief excerpt, italics are mine, and a link to the full article:

If you look past the crude gender stereotype, the mommy party/daddy party frame is actually a useful way to think about politics. Government needs to uplift the poor and protect the vulnerable; it also needs to be mindful of resource limitations, encourage productivity, and conduct its own operations efficiently.

Two parties that put different weight on these values can have productive debates about making government better. But Republicans today are not holding up their end of the division of labor.

If Republicans were once the daddy party, now they’re the abusive ex-husband with a substance abuse problem party.

Shutdown 2013: The Deal That Will End It

There is a lot of press about the Government shutdown brought upon us by the out of control Tea Party Loonies in Congress.  However, this is the best single write up I have seen….

This excellent article, by Noam Scheiber in the “New Republic”, summarizes where we are and how we got there with the Government shutdown- and just how desperate the GOP is becoming to find a way to end it.

It also very well points out the fractures in the GOP between the few pragmatic Republicans left in Congress and the Tea Party that, protected by heavily gerrymandered districts, is running rampantly crazy in Washington.

The best thing to come out of this is that the GOP Establishment has seen that they have created a monster with the Tea Party and that they are going to have to deal with it- or let it destroy the GOP.

I’m fine, either way….

Here is an excerpt from and a link to the full article.  It’s fascinating reading….

The problem for the GOP is that, as insulated as the House jihadis are from national trends, Senate Republicans and House pragmatists emphatically are not. When the approval rating for Republicans drops nationally, these people are badly exposed. They begin to fear for their jobs. They become desperate to cut a deal—any deal—that will end their political pain. And once they do—once there is a deal that a large chunk of Republicans either explicitly sign onto or tacitly endorse—then it is game over for the House. There is simply no House Republican leader who can resist a bill that many if not most Republicans want to see pass, a bill that has passed the Senate, and to which the only alternative is the complete annihilation of both the Republican Party and the global economy.

As we enter the home stretch, the dynamic is only reinforcing itself. The Tea Partiers have become steadily more delusional, reminding the pragmatists how insane it was to lock arms with them in the first place. “When I was home, I talked with people in our office that called in, I don’t get the sense that 70 percent [of people blame us],” House conservative Jim Jordan told Politico last week. (Good point!) On Sunday, the loonies in the House seized on a report that a mob of patriots overran the World War II Memorial and reclaimed it for … well, for whom isn’t entirely clear. But the loons in the House promptly labeled it a “game changer,” according to National Review’s Robert Costa. To them, it was the latest sign that the country sees things their way.

The pragmatists are, in turn, only becoming more anxious. Costa reports that aides to Mitch McConnell now worry they’ll have to make concessions on the sequester just to end the current crisis, whereas they’d previously assumed they could leave the sequester in place and trade it for entitlement cuts in a future grand bargain.

What Costa doesn’t discuss is the Republican leadership’s incentives, which is the final, poetic wrinkle in all of this. McConnell and Boehner, in addition to understanding how badly the Tea Partiers have hurt their party, have yet another reason to sue for peace. McConnell is facing a Tea Party primary challenge in his re-election campaign. Boehner has been repeatedly embarrassed by the Tea Partiers in his caucus, who have actively sabotaged his leadership (egged on/manipulated by Texas Senator Ted Cruz). Both men know their side has lost. Both men also know their party’s fanatics are to blame. Do you think they don’t want to see the Tea Party humiliated before all is said and done? Do you think they might want to see the Tea Partiers stuck with all the blame?

At the very least, it’s hard to believe they’ll fight too hard against any deal that accomplishes those goals. As I say, those intra-party rifts are a bummer.

Make 2014 a Referendum on Republican Tea Party Radicalism

I could not agree more with the sentiments expressed in this article from Ian Reifowitz at “Daily Kos.”

I encourage you to click the link and read the entire article:

These guys are toxic. In 2014 Democrats need to put all Republican candidates on the defensive by emphasizing their role in supporting the radicalism of the Tea Party, John Boehner and Ted Cruz. We need to make sure these candidates are unable to distance themselves from Republican radicalism. They need to own it. And if they double down on that radicalism, all the better. You’ll know we’ve succeeded when Republicans start saying, “Well, I’m not that kind of Republican. I’m not Tea Party.”

And within the Republican Party, these kinds of cracks are beginning to show. Relatively reasonable Republicans are ready to isolate Tea Party radicals. Elections in 2014 offer an opportunity not only to retake the House of Representatives, but to break the stranglehold the radicals have exercised over congressional Republicans for too long.

This country cannot continue to lurch from crisis to crisis because one radical faction refuses to accept the results of an election. We need two parties that compete for votes at the ballot box and then, after the elections are over, act responsibly and get down to the business of governing. The only way that\’s going to happen is if voters punish Tea Party Republican radicalism by booting a good number of Republicans out of office. Teach them a lesson they won\’t soon forget.

Dirtball’s ‘Green’ Jeans Are Made In U.S. From Recycled Water Bottles

I’m always pleased when I see any article about things being made in the USA again.  It’s even nicer when it’s something leveraging “Green” technology and being headquartered in North Carolina.  North Carolina can use all the positive publicity it can get these days as the Governor and his cronies in Raleigh try to drag us back to the days of Jesse Helms….

I’m also glad someone has found a positive use for all those water bottles Americans, most of whom only walk about 3 feet a day, seem to always carry with them.  I guess they are afraid of dehydrating walking to the car to drive to McDonalds….

Anyway, here is an excerpt from  interesting article from the Huffington Post.  I encourage you to clink the link and read more…

How do you get more American than blue jeans? How about making them in America, for starters. That\’s what the eco-friendly fashion company Dirtball is doing with its new line of denim, which will be made entirely in the USA.

The blue jean has a green twist, as well. Dirtball CEO Joe Fox brags that the jeans are eco-friendly since they\’re made out of recycled water bottles (and cotton). The Green Jean just hit its $40,000 funding target on Kickstarter.

Here\’s a quick preview from the company\’s website:

NC Governor Spending $230,000 on Mansion Bathrooms

Amazing…

I’m basically speechless at the arrogance, stupidity and lies of the McCrory administration and the Republican leaders in Raleigh, but this is really ridiculous.

From the Raleigh News and Observer:

Gov. Pat McCrory plans to spend up to $230,000 in taxpayer funds remodeling bathrooms in his private living quarters at North Carolina’s Executive Mansion even as he demands belt-tightening for public schools and social programs.

Planned upgrades include new marble, tubs and fixtures for six bathrooms on the upper floors of the Victorian-era home in Raleigh. The changes were included in a long list detailing $90 million in repairs and renovations to government buildings sent to legislative leaders last week by state budget director Art Pope. The $90 million was included in the state budget for the current fiscal year.

Forward Together, Not One Step Back

In light of the passage of the horrible new voting restrictions, I urge you to take 15 minutes to watch this fascinating documentary on the history of Voting Rights and Voter Suppression in North Carolina.

I learned a lot of North Carolina History I did not know and saw so many historical parallels to what the Conservatives are trying to do in North Carolina and other states today.

This may be the best use of 15 minutes you’ll have all weekend.

Black Voter Turnout Surpassed Whites in 2012

This is one of , if not the main reason the GOP is trying so hard to limit voting by passing Voter ID Laws, limiting early voting and gerrymandering districts…

And the challenge for the Democrats is to still drive this level of participation when President Obama is not on the ticket….

From Taegan Roberts Political Wire:

“America’s blacks voted at a higher rate than other minority groups in 2012 and by most measures surpassed the white turnout for the first time, reflecting a deeply polarized presidential election in which blacks strongly supported Barack Obama while many whites stayed home,” the AP reports.

“Had people voted last November at the same rates they did in 2004, when black turnout was below its current historic levels, Republican Mitt Romney would have won narrowly.”

Michele Presnell, N.C. Lawmaker, Opposes Islamic Prayer

More bad publicity for the State of North Carolina…

This is from one the latest batch of GOP idiots elected to the State Legislature last election- when the Democrats stayed home….

Elections have consequences and that one had big ones- it handed the State Legislature to the GOP along with the power to gerrymander the districts to make it safe for people like this to keep their seats…

But this woman is just beyond stupid…

But if you click the link and look at her picture….

From TalkingPointsMemo.com:

A Republican legislator in North Carolina told a constituent that she has misgivings with an Islamic prayer being conducted before a legislative meeting because she doesn’t “condone terrorism,” the Raleigh News & Observer reported Wednesday.

In an email exchange obtained by the News & Observer, state Rep. Michele Presnell (R) was responding to a constituent who asked her if she is comfortable with a prayer to Allah taking place before the meeting.

“No, I do not condone terrorism,” Presnell responded to the constituent.

Presnell did not immediately respond to TPM’s request for comment.

The constituent was taking Presnell to task over an ACLU lawsuit against a North Carolina county over Christian prayers being conducted before commissioners meetings there. That lawsuit was the impetus for a bill that would nullify any federal ruling on prayer in the state, on which Presnell is a co-sponsor.

Rand Paul “Educates” Black People…And Proves He’s An Ignorant, Elitist, Entitled White Man- Again…..

Rand Paul is truly an idiot….

People just didn’t realize it in time to prevent him from becoming a Senator….

The good news is, the Peter Principle has kicked in:  He has reached- and surpassed- his level of incompetence….

And he’s illustrating it on the national stage….

From ThinkProgress.org:

On Wednesday morning, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) gave an address at the historically-black Howard University designed to convince black voters to support Republicans. While some of his remarks, most notably on harsh drug laws and other civil liberties issues, were well-received, the majority of the speech consisted in Paul condescendingly explaining American racial history to the audience, occasionally incorrectly, and expecting that it would open black voters’ eyes to the real Republican Party. Here are five moments that encapsulated the general problem with Paul’s speech:
