Conservative Talk Ratings Slide

Hopefully people are finally getting tired of these evil clowns….

Or their elderly audience is passing on…

From Political Wire:

“Right-wing talk radio may have worn out its welcome, at least for now,” reports Crain’s New York Business.

A new Arbitron report shows Rush Limbaugh’s ratings down 33% from a year ago and Sean Hannitty down 28% over the same time period. Meanwhile, more centrist personalities — Don Imus in the morning and John Batchelor at night — were both up from a year earlier.

Even Fox News Chief Roger Ailes Thinks Sarah Palin Is ‘Stupid’: New York Magazine

But they still push her out there and give her a platform to share her stupidity….

From Michael Calderone in New York Magazine:

Fox News still dominates the cable news ratings, but chairman Roger Ailes wants something more: to help elect the next president.

That’s the takeaway from Gabriel Sherman’s New York magazine cover story hitting newsstands Monday. Sherman, who’s currently writing a book on Fox News for Random House, looks at how Ailes — who built up a stable of possible presidential contenders after the 2008 election, including Sarah Palin — isn’t so pleased with their chances at beating President Barack Obama in 2012.

Ailes doesn’t speak on the record in the article, but several Republicans close to the Fox News chief describe his concerns going into an election year.

“He thinks things are going in a bad direction,” another Republican close to Ailes told [Sherman]. “Roger is worried about the future of the country. He thinks the election of Obama is a disaster. He thinks Palin is an idiot. He thinks she’s stupid. He helped boost her up. People like Sarah Palin haven’t elevated the conservative movement.”

Ailes, a television titan, has schooled past presidential candidates on how to handle the media. Before helping Rupert Murdoch launch Fox News in 1996, Ailes worked as a strategist for Republican presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush (whom he still talks to regularly).

U.S. CEO Pay Jumps 11 Percent

Interesting that Media company CEO’s take 4 of the top 10 slots…

Kind of tells you why we can’t trust the mainstream media….

Does the phrase “bought and paid for” jump out to you like it does me?

This is why “hard” news is being replaced by entertainment programming….

WASHINGTON — Compensation received by chief executives of the biggest US companies surged 11 percent over the past 12 months — to $9.3 million on average, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Citing a study conducted for the newspaper by management consultancy Hay Group, The Journal said the increase was largely due to decisions by company boards to reward CEOs for strong profit and share-price growth with bigger bonuses and stock grants.

The survey covered the 350 biggest companies that filed their statement between May 1, 2010, and April 30, 2011.

Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman topped the list after receiving compensation valued at $84.3 million, more than double his 2009 pay, the report said.

Larry Ellison, the billionaire founder of Oracle, took second place, according to The Journal.

Long ranked among the highest-paid chiefs, he received compensation valued at $68.6 million for the year ended last May 31.

CBS CEO Leslie Moonves landed the number three spot with compensation valued at $53.9 million.

Overall, the CEOs of media companies claimed four of the top 10 spots, the paper noted.

Don’t Mess with Elly May….

I’ve seen recent pictures….

She is one scary woman….

And she’s still playing Elly May on the road….

They really should just cut her a check…

The actress who played buxom hayseed Elly May Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies believes Mattel (MAT) done her wrong over a doll.

Donna Douglas, who appeared as Elly May in every episode of the TV comedy from 1962 to 1971, is suing the toy giant for marketing its Elly May Barbie and a photo of Douglas in the packaging without her endorsement. The suit seeks compensation for illegal usage of her name and likeness, according to a Associated Press story in The Los Angeles Times. Mattel didn’t comment in the article.

Douglas, now 77, joins an odd list of other celebrities who toyed with legal action after a doll ticked them off.

Television Ownership Drops in U.S.

I’m not surprised…

We barely watch TV and if we do, it’s usually to watch a DVD or stream a movie in from on-line….

Broadcast TV has become a wasteland of mindless trash and insipid commercials….

I don’t miss it….

I choose to watch a few quality shows on DVD, get my news on the internet and ignore the trash culture TV perpetuates….

From the New York Times:

For the first time in 20 years, the number of homes in the United States with television sets has dropped.

The Nielsen Company, which takes TV set ownership into account when it produces ratings, will tell television networks and advertisers on Tuesday that 96.7 percent of American households now own sets, down from 98.9 percent previously.

There are two reasons for the decline, according to Nielsen. One is poverty: some low-income households no longer own TV sets, most likely because they cannot afford new digital sets and antennas.

The other is technological wizardry: young people who have grown up with laptops in their hands instead of remote controls are opting not to buy TV sets when they graduate from college or enter the work force, at least not at first. Instead, they are subsisting on a diet of television shows and movies from the Internet.

That second reason is prompting Nielsen to think about a redefinition of the term “television household” to include Internet video viewers.

“We’ve been having conversations with clients,” said Pat McDonough, the senior vice president for insights and analysis at Nielsen. “That would be a big change for this industry, and we’d be doing it in consultation with clients if we do it.”

Nielsen’s household figures suggest that while the TV set is still firmly at the center of the average American’s media life, a small minority of Americans are finding ways to live without it. The “persistently rocky economy” is a factor, the company says in the report to be released Tuesday.

Man Raised By Modern Parents Struggling To Adjust To Human Society

Great satirical article from “The Onion” about today’s sheltered adult/children resulting from “helicopter” parents…

This is the group I lovingly refer to as SJI’s-Slack Jawed Idiots- due to their lack of social skills resulting from overly protective parents….

Here’s a brief excerpt from the article and a link to the full story:

Sullivan reportedly has trouble navigating even the most simple situations, often becoming frustrated to the point of tears by an attempt to mail a letter at the post office, or shutting down completely when forced to have a conversation with a person he doesn’t feel comfortable with.

“Whenever David enters a social gathering, for example, he quickly becomes fearful and anxious,” Reynolds said. “He’ll back himself into a corner, rapidly consume alcohol and snack foods, avoid eye contact, and, in some cases, lash out with sarcasm in reaction to perceived threats. Within an hour, he invariably becomes spooked and flees.”

When he feels especially threatened or overwhelmed, Sullivan returns to the place where he was raised, sometimes spending an entire weekend in the habitat to which he is still best adapted. According to Reynolds it is, in many ways, the only world Sullivan understands.

“David’s lack of acculturation is particularly evident when he attempts to interact with women, even in the most innocuous of circumstances,” Reynolds said. “Most likely he was fiercely protected and coddled by the female parent during his teen years instead of gradually learning to interact with girls as a normal child of that age would.”

“Sadly, David remains so off-putting to members of the opposite sex that he will probably never procreate,” Reynolds added.

JCrew at Center of Gay Politics Again With Gay Couple ‘Happy Together’ in May Catalog – ABC News

Another reason for me to love J Crew….

I already have a closet full of their clothes…

This just makes me want to buy more to show my support!

Or at least use that as an excuse…

In any event, Thanks, J Crew!

J. Crew surprised consumers again with a May 2011 catalog that features its employees as models, including a gay designer with his boyfriend, who are described as “Happy Together.”

The preppie clothing giant was quiet on its presentation of the same-sex couple — “Our designer Somsack and his boyfriend, Micah” — but gay advocates applaud what they say is a strong message.

“Nothing is unintentional in this kind of marketing,” said Cathy Renna of Renna Communications, which serves the LGBT community. “Bravo to J. Crew.”

“It’s a giant step forward,” she said. “As an activist, it’s great to see a diversity of images and to see gay families represented in more regular media.”

Kate Middleton debuts high in new survey of the most attractive royals – NYPOST.com

What can I say?

I can’t help but get caught up in this….

Kate Middleton’s wedding is still 11 days away, but she has already been crowned the third most beautiful royal of all time — surpassing even Princess Diana.

Her soon-to-be highness’s high cheekbones and regal smile put her just below Princess Grace and Queen Rania of Jor dan on the rankings, according to a survey conducted by the social- network site Beautiful People.com.

“That was a big surprise — that she surpassed Princess Diana,” said Greg Hodge, manag ing director of the site. “But unlike Diana, who grew into her role, Kate Middleton comes in very fashion-forward. She’s living this fairy tale, and is about to become the most famous princess in the world.”

That Princess Grace remains unmatched is understandable, however.

“She’s iconic and remains so,” Hodge said.

The Royal Wedding: Behind the Cameras

Somehow this didn’t make it to the televised version I saw….

Thanks to my friend Kirk for making me aware of this…

But I really prefer the dignity of the real thing…

I’m always  up for any event that requires hats, gloves and understated elegance…

At least until the second hour of the reception….
