Love, love, love this woman’s music….
She sings me to sleep almost every night on my iPod…
She’s 55 today and I hope she performs and records new music for many, many more years….

She was the Voice of my Generation….
And ultimately our generation’s Judy Garland….
May she find peace, at last, while we remember the gifts she gave to us:
Whitney, at only 22, on Letterman:
And this one from when we were all so young…
From the Soundtrack of our youth:
And her amazing Christmas recording of “Do You Hear What I Hear'”:
And from her last album a couple of years ago:

People forget Lucy could do more than situation comedy….
Doing “Mame” when she was way too old for the part kind of killed memories of how good she could be as a Song and Dance gal…
Not one of the greats, but very, very good and it provides proof of her abilities as an all around entertainer…
I think she still played her musical talent better on television- God knows, her movie of “Mame” was a mess….
Here are a couple of clips for entertainment on a rainy Saturday night- at least that’s the weather here in North Carolina…
From her Broadway show “Wildcat”, “Hey Look Me Over” with Steve Lawrence on TV:
With Shirley Maclaine from her TV Special “Gypsy in My Soul” (Which I really wish would come out on DVD….)
And from a Bob Hope Special:

Another icon of my youth….
He’s 56 years old today….
Here are a few of clips from some of his greatest hits to celebrate his birthday….
And, little known fact, he was the voice of the Beast in the Disney cartoon “Beauty and the Beast”.
Here is a clip from 2010 where he discusses that and where he is today:
It’s hard to believe that Charo is only 61 today….
It seems like she has been around much longer than that…
And I’ve always wondered: “Why?”
She’s definitely a 20th Century Wonder who is Lost in the 21st Century….
But she is still working….
Bless her heart. I’m sure she’s really sweet…
And she is also a truly talented classical guitarist…
Here is a video of her in her heyday:
And one of her taken last year in New York:
And proving she has a sense of humor, working with Carol Burnett:

Is Mitt Romney a Serial Killer?
Based on Mitt’s belief that Corporations are People and what he did making his fortune at Bain Capital, that seems to be the logical conclusion this ad draws.
The premise makes sense to me….
Oh, the ad is from Jon Stewart in support of Stephen Colbert’s candidacy in the South Carolina GOP Primary next week…
This GOP Primary just keeps getting more and more entertaining!
And I’m sure these Masters of the Universe types who are running for the GOP Nomination are getting sick and tired of being challenged by the snarky little people….
They just hate it when Democracy happens….
Here is a link to the ad. It won’t let me embed it here in the post….
Or here is a link to the HuffPost story:

It must be so sad to finally come out of the closet and no one cares….
We all knew….
All I can think is she really must need some cash and really want a new sitcom and is hoping the publicity will make her marketable again…
So sad….that I am so cynical.
She is a really talented actress. I think she could have been as great as Jodie Foster if she had been more secure…
But Gay people of our generation had a different journey. I can understand her fears, but it’s just too late to matter that she’s coming out….
Most of us who are Gay and her age bit the bullet and came out years ago. She could have, too.
While I always want Gay Actors to come out, it would have meant so much more if “Buddy” had confirmed our knowledge that she was Gay years ago.
Still, we can’t judge and look back…
I wish her the best….
Gay people always love a comeback!
From People Magazine, of course:
Kristy McNichol has been out of the public eye for 20 years. Now she’s chosen to come out – to try to help kids who are being bullied.
McNichol, 49, who has lived with her partner Martie Allen, also 49, for the past two decades, decided to make a statement about her sexuality and share this photo because she is “approaching 50” and wants to “be open about who I am.”
She “is very sad about kids being bullied,” her publicist Jeff Ballard tells PEOPLE. “She hopes that coming out can help kids who need support. She would like to help others who feel different.”
Best known for her Emmy Award-winning role as Buddy Lawrence in the ’70s show Family and later as Barbara Weston in Empty Nest, McNichol left it all behind when she dropped out of Hollywood to focus on her health.
Done with acting, McNichol spends her time focusing on tennis, yoga, travel and raising her beloved miniature dachshunds. “She is very happy and healthy,” says Ballard. “And she enjoys living a very private life.”

This is disturbing on so many levels. All other issues aside, what kind of parent let’s any 17-year-old get a permanent tattoo of anything/anyone?
Hopefully, he will eventually gain some weight and muscle and that will really have an impact on filling out Jesus’ face….
I’ve always wondered how he would have looked if Burl Ives had played Jesus. We may find out…..
And if my legs were that scrawny, I definitely would not want to call attention to them…
I repeat: I wish I could find and invest in a company specializing in Tattoo Removal for when all these kids realize that these tats aren’t going to look nearly as good as they age and their bodies change. I would make so much money I wouldn’t have to worry about what the Republicans are going to do to Social Security.
I really think you should not be allowed to get tats until you are at least 30. By then, you should know what the consequences are and be able to make an informed decision….
Oh, and I still think his “music” sucks and that “he” is really a 24 year-old-lesbian with a great Marketing Plan…
From The Huffington Post. Link has the picture:
Jesus walks. Justin Bieber was spotted on the beach in Los Angeles rocking board shorts and some major ink. The Biebs has always been vocal about his faith but now he’s wearing it on his sleeve — or rather his calf. The “Mistletoe” singer was recently tatted with a large visage of Jesus on his left calf.
Bieber also has the name “Jesus” tattooed on his torso but his new ink is certainly a more visible ode to his religion. The 17-year-old also has a small bird tattooed on his hip. Could Bieber’s permanent art leanings start to rub off on girlfriend, Selena Gomez?

This is flying around Facebook right now, but I loved it so much, I wanted to repost it here….
It’s short and quite wonderful….
The Julia Sugarbaker character really sums it all up perfectly- at least from my perspective.

I just came across an interesting quote on flying from Judy Garland….
I can only imagine what she would have to say if she were flying today…
“I hate flying. I don’t want to die. I’ve never met a cast of people I wanted to die with. You go on an airplane and see the people sitting there reading Reader’s Digest…you don’t want to die with them, you KNOW, you don’t want to die with them!
First of all I get top billing: JUDY GARLAND dies in plane crash. For other deceased, turn to section D page eighteen, where they have them listed alphabetically.
What are we doing flying around in airplanes? The birds don’t even go that high! You have to strap yourself in and HOPE…and there’s no hope and NO OXYGEN!
I have to make friends with the pilot, whereupon he tells me that his children are just as important to him as mine are…forget it! His life isn’t NEARLY as important as my life is to me! Call it sheer selfishness, I don’t really CARE!”
