Is America Trending Towards Socialism?

There is some very interesting data in this article from Pew Research.  For one thing, if you know the demographic trending of the American Population- younger and less white- you see an increasing acceptance of- or at least not fear of- Socialism.

The older and whiter the demographic, the more they still see Socialism as the big, scary monster….

Here is a table of their findings and a link to the full article….

Flying with Judy Garland

I just came across an interesting quote on flying from Judy Garland….

I can only imagine what she would have to say if she were flying today…

“I hate flying. I don’t want to die. I’ve never met a cast of people I wanted to die with. You go on an airplane and see the people sitting there reading Reader’s Digest…you don’t want to die with them, you KNOW, you don’t want to die with them!

First of all I get top billing: JUDY GARLAND dies in plane crash. For other deceased, turn to section D page eighteen, where they have them listed alphabetically.

What are we doing flying around in airplanes? The birds don’t even go that high! You have to strap yourself in and HOPE…and there’s no hope and NO OXYGEN!

I have to make friends with the pilot, whereupon he tells me that his children are just as important to him as mine are…forget it! His life isn’t NEARLY as important as my life is to me! Call it sheer selfishness, I don’t really CARE!”

What Are You Doing New Years Eve?

Well, the Holidays are almost over and I’ll be back with more regular posts soon.

I’m ready to move on and put 2011 behind us as we look forward to the future in 2012.

As the Holidays wind down, here is one of my favorite songs sung by one of my favorite singers.

I wish Karen Carpenter was still with us.  I think she would eventually have been given the serious recognition her phenomenal voice and phrasing deserved.

Not the best video, but one of the best renditions of this song….

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Whether you recognize the December Holidays as Christmas, Chanukah,Winter Solstice , Kwanzaa or anything else, I hope you all take the time to pause, share time and appreciate your friends and family- of birth or by choice.

Whatever your beliefs- and whatever mine might be- I still like this song best for the holidays.  Forgive me if you don’t think it’s politically correct, but it sums it all up for me so I want to share it with you.

And besides, it’s Judy Garland at her best.  Who can argue with that?

Santa Baby: The Rent Boy Version

In addition to the immortal Eartha Kitt and Kylie Minogue, there is another really nice version of this song…

It’s the Michael Buble Rent Boy Version…

I bet Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs are hearing this a lot this season….

I keep hoping for a real video….

Santa Baby

I will, hopefully, not be posting much on politics the next few days.

Due to the Holidays, there is little going on except more Republican obstruction and childishness.  In other words, the situation is business as usual and I’m going to try to ignore it all for a few days to focus on enjoying the Holidays and bracing myself for the 2012 Election Madness that starts right after the Holidays end…

So….let’s all focus on enjoying the next few days and worry about life in a decaying democracy later.  After all, tomorrow is another day…..

In that spirit, let’s move on to the fun and frivolous!

Eartha Kitt owns this song, but there really isn’t a great video….

However, Kylie Minogue does a damn good job here!

Let’s not talk about the Madonna version….

Here is today’s Christmas Video:

Barney Frank’s Nipples Steal The Show During House Address

This is one headline- and picture and video- that I really hoped never to see….

It also serves as evidence that the guy who wrote the book in my previous post is so deadly wrong….

Here is the article, if you must, you can click the link and see the pictures and video at the Huffington Post….

Outgoing Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) appeared to have the congressional equivalent of a wardrobe malfunction Monday, when he delivered an address from the House floor and ended up being upstaged by his own chest.

Dressed in a snug, light blue crew neck shirt with a jacket draped over his shoulders — perhaps because he’s now wearing a large cast on his left hand — Frank stood at the podium to deliver a speech on bank failures, and instead raised questions about how cold it was in the House chamber.

Frank has announced that he will retire when his current term is up. No longer beholden to electoral politics, it’s possible that we’ll see some more unusual sartorial decisions before he departs the halls of Congress.

Before he decides to go with this outfit again, which doesn’t appear to fit under traditional House floor dress code, perhaps he should consider tracking down a “manzier,” the undergarment invented by Cosmo Kramer in the 1990s sitcom “Seinfeld.”

Why Gay Men Dont Get Fat

Well, this is news to me and most of my friends….

Sounds like another stereotypical book from the Circuit Party set for the Circuit Party set and the wannabes- but I’ll hold my fire until I read more about it…

I think it’s part of the proof of how much we’ve assimilated into society that we now get just as fat as straight men- at least outside of the NY-LA Gay Ghettos….

“Gay Men Don’t Get Fat” is the title of an as-of-yet published book by Barneys New York creative ambassador Simon Doonan. The author calls it “a stylishly slimming discourse that proves gay men really ARE French women: prone to disdain, favoring cheeky underwear, convinced of their own artistic brilliance, and of course calorie-obsessed.

”The French women reference, and title of his book, are both presumably a reference to the popular diet book “French Women Don’t Get Fat,” which espoused emulating French culinary culture to slim down.

Before we go any further, if Doonan wasn’t himself gay, I think he’d be treading on thin ice, you know, with the whole stereotyping thing. Gays and lesbians, like everyone else in the world, come in all shapes and sizes.

While I’ve had gay friends over the years, it’s difficult for me to speak with any authority about whether or not they are on average less fat than everyone else.

However, there is an undeniable sub-culture in the gay community that obsesses over their physique, which is the focus in “Gay Men Don’t Get Fat.”

What ultimately matters is have there been any scientific studies to back the idea of gay men being thinner than their hetero counterparts?

Last year, a study led by Kerith Conron, an associate research scientist at Northeastern University and a research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, came to the conclusion that, in fact, gay men are slimmer than heterosexual men. The same held true, flipped, for lesbians. That is, lesbians are on average heavier than their heterosexual counterparts. The researchers determined that gay men are 50 percent less likely to be obese.

Anti-Incumbent Fever Could Hurt Republicans

This is good news.

I just hope the trend holds until next year AND that the Dems actually nominate credible, progressive candidates as alternatives….

I’m so sick of the Dem’s nominating Candidates who are like GOP Lites, instead of true Progressives.  I hope they realize how much things have changed…

From the Huffington Post:

Results from a new national survey from the Pew Research Center should strike fear into the hearts of incumbents in Congress, especially those who are members of the Republican Party. A record number of respondents want to vote sitting lawmakers out of office, and Republicans take more of the blame than Democrats for perceptions of a do-nothing Congress.

According to the Pew Research report, two-thirds (67 percent) of registered voters nationwide say “most members of Congress” should be voted out of office in 2012, while only 20 percent want most members reelected. This desire to fire all incumbents marks a record level of discontent since the Pew Center started asking the question 18 years ago, far exceeding previous highs of 57 percent in 2010 and 56 percent in 1994.
