Romney Will Release 2010 Tax Returns and What to Look For…..

More fun on the way….

He really doesn’t want to do this, but after South Carolina, he really doesn’t have much choice….

A few thoughts/lookouts here:

  1. He is only releasing last year and an estimate of this year.  It takes more than one year to really get a picture of his true financial life.
  2. Look for Cayman Islands bank accounts/investments funds.  If they they are there; who are his partners?  Follow the money…
  3. Look at how much he contributes to charities and what charities he supports.  This could cause some questions…
  4. Look at his overall wealth and tax rate.  This is probably going to be the first bomb to go off, but the others could be bigger….
  5. Who know what else?

The fun continues!

From The Huffington Post:

Bending, halfway, to political pressures, Mitt Romney pledged on Sunday to release his most recent year of tax returns this coming week as well as an estimate for his upcoming filings.

In an interview on “Fox News Sunday,” the former Massachusetts governor said his campaign would be putting out tax information for 2010 and projections for 2011 on Tuesday.

Romney Campaign Busing in Mormons to Make Crowds

This is showing up on several websites today….

The Romney campaign is just collapsing in South Carolina and bussing in Mormon college students to make their crowds seem bigger and more excited….

This is really getting interesting….

From DailyKos:

Buzzfeed reports the latest signs of the complete collapse of the Romney campaign in South Carolina:

GREENVILLE, South Carolina–Outside Tommy’s Ham House here this morning–where Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich scheduled back-to-back visits–a boisterous crowd of young, fresh-faced supporters was waving Romney signs and chanting, “MITT! MITT! MITT!”

But this wasn’t a grassroots youth movement rooted at the University of South Carolina. No, many of the students cheering on the candidate told BuzzFeed they were actually BYU students and young Mormons from D.C. and Virginia who traveled to the Palmetto State to give their coreligionist’s presidential effort a much-needed jolt of energy.

Kat Wardle, a 23-year-old BYU student who is spending the semester in Washington, D.C., said she and several young Latter-Day Saints have been following Romney around the state, playing the role of cheerleaders at various campaign stops.

“I was all over the place at the Lexington rally!” said Wardle, referring to a rainy outdoor event that the campaign has been spinning as an example of growing momentum. Despite the weather, a crowd of several hundred remained for the event and, Romney surrogates like Nikki Haley have pointed out, they were loud and proud.

Mitt Romney: Untruths, Wholly Untrue, And Nothing But Untruths

While we are on the subject of the GOP and lying…

Mitt Romney is really a master of this Republican trait.

He has the uncanny ability to look people in the eye and lie like a cheap rug on a concrete floor…

And the national press won’t call out anyone for lying anymore since the GOP has convinced them that facts are relative to one’s political views….

Sorry.  A fact is a fact is a fact.  Period.

We’ve just fallen through the looking glass into an unreal world that doesn’t recognize this simple truth….

Here are Paul Krugman’s comments from today’s New York Times:

I mean, is there anything at all in Romney’s stump speech that’s true? It’s all based on attacking Obama for apologizing for America, which he didn’t, on making deep cuts in defense, which he also didn’t, and on being a radical redistributionist who wants equality of outcomes, which he isn’t. When the issue turns to jobs, Romney makes false assertions both about Obama’s record and about his own. I can’t find a single true assertion anywhere.

The Romneys of Mexico- Mitt Romney’s Mexican Cousins That He Ignores

I somehow don’t think he’s going to want to talk about this, either….

This is really going to annoy some of the other Republicans and Tea Partiers….

More fun to come!

From, The Last Word at MSNBC:

As Willard M. Romney’s campaign plows ahead toward the Republican nomination for president, little-known details on his personal background are popping up.

On the campaign trail, for instance, he’ll gladly chat about his huge family. But what about his Mexican cousins? It’s a branch he ignores in public.

NBC News correspondent Mike Taibbi filed a fascinating report on Rock Center with Brian Williams, profiling Romney’s relatives who are Mexican citizens. In 1885, Romney’s Mormon great-grandfather, Miles Park Romney, fled from the United States to Mexico in order to escape prosecution for practicing polygamy. His own father was born there and went on to become the governor of Michigan — the quintessential poster boy for the Dream Act. About 40 cousins still live south of the border, and directly oppose cousin Willard on his own anti-Dream Act stance.

Earlier today, Romney’s campaign released a new TV ad, en español, reaching out to Spanish-speaking voters in Florida.

Mitt Romney Quotes Lesbian Poet Concerned About Income Inequality On The Stump

This woman may be the spiritual Grandmother of Occupy Wall Street and the biggest One Percenter Robber Baron in the GOP Game is quoting her…

Although I’m sure he doesn’t know who she really was and what she really stood for-typical shoddy work by the GOP Candidates.

The only thing that saves the GOP Candidates from embarrassment over incidents like this is the fact their voters don’t care about little things like facts…

And are too poorly educated and fanatical to get the point anyway….

And the candidates will just shamelessly lie their way out it if anyone calls attention to these disconnects…

From ThinkProgress.com:

Mitt Romney regularly incorporates lyrics from “America the Beautiful” into his stump speeches. Little does he probably realize that the hymn was written by a progressive feminist lesbian who composed it to critique country’s greed, excess, and growing economic inequality. The original third-verse lyrics Katharine Lee Bates wrote in 1894 were as follows:

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

Till selfish gain no longer stain

The banner of the free!

She later rewrote the stanza, toning down the rhetoric but maintaining that wealth was not what made America great:

America! America!

May God thy gold refine

Till all success be nobleness

And every gain divine!

Given Romney’s vast personal wealth and his ongoing defense of the one percent, plus his opposition to same-sex marriage and other LGBT rights, he might wish to rethink which American poets he chooses to highlight in his speeches.

Both Rick Santorum and Rick Perry fell into a similar trap last year when they highlighted Langston Hughes’ “Let America Be America,” despite Hughes’ record as pro-gay, pro-union, and pro-immigration. (HT: Mombian.)

Mitt Romney: Poor Little Rich Boy

In honor of Mitt’s $10,000 bet with Rick Perry at last night’s debate….

Most of the pundits today seem to think it’s a fatal error that makes it clear that $10,000 to Mitt is like $10 is to most  everyone else.

They opine that this means Mitt is one of the 1% who can’t relate to the Middle Class or the 99%…

And that the Middle Class and 99% won’t be able to relate to Mitt….

DUH…..

Robert Reich: The Corporate Pledge of Allegiance

Another brilliant article from former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich….

Click the link at the bottom to see his actual proposed “pledge” for the Corporations:

Words of Wisdom from RobertReich.org:

Despite what the Supreme Court and Mitt Romney say, corporations aren’t people. (I’ll believe they are when Georgia and Texas start executing them.)

The Court thinks corporations have First Amendment rights to spend as much as they want on politics, and Romney (and most of his fellow Regressives) think they need lower taxes and fewer regulations in order to be competitive.

These positions are absurd on their face. By flooding our democracy with their shareholders’ money, big corporations are violating their shareholders’ First Amendment rights because shareholders aren’t consulted. They’re simultaneously suppressing the First Amendment rights of the rest of us because, given how much money they’re throwing around, we don’t have enough money to be heard.

And they’re indirectly giving non-Americans (that is, all their foreign owners, investors, and executives) a say in how Americans are governed. Pardon me for being old-fashioned but I didn’t think foreign money was supposed to be funneled into American elections.

Romney’s belief big corporations need more money and lower costs in order to create jobs is equally baffling. Big corporations are now sitting on $2 trillion of cash and enjoying near-record profits. The ratio of profits to wages is higher than it’s been since before the Great Depression. And a larger and larger portion of those profits are going to top executives. (CEO pay was 40 times the typical worker in the 1980s; it’s now upwards of 300 times.)

Ten Things I Hate About Republicans

As a start, let’s remember the classic premise under which the Republican Party has traditionally built its platform:  “A strong national defense and  less government intrusion into our daily lives.”  Doesn’t sound too bad on the surface, but the devil is in the details and how the GOP has evolved over the last 30 years.

The GOP used to be the bastion of White Shoe Lawyers, Old Money and the Corporate Elite.  At least they were straight forward about their goals in those days.  It was all about preserving capital within the family, making money and leaving every one else alone as long as those goals were achieved.

Then came the unholy alliance with the Religious Right.  Then they had to pretend they gave a damn about abortion and gays.  There went the part of the platform about “less government intrusion into our daily lives.”  Out the window.  The proverbial baby with the bath water,

That eventually led to most sensible people leaving the GOP.  This was all just too tacky for the Country Club Republicans to accept.  So, they moved to the Democrats and we saw the rise of the Corporatist Wing of the Democratic Party.

Arguably, a lot of today’s Democrats are very similar to the Republicans of 30 or 40 years ago.  That means a lot of people don’t quite fit anywhere.   However, the Democratic Party is more open to dissension and discussion, so most of these folks stay with the Dems and try to work it out.  The Dems negotiate, the GOP purges like the Stalinists of yore….

But I digress…let’s get back on topic.

What do I hate about the “modern” GOP?  Let me tell you…

1.  They are mean- these folks go for the jugular vein.  They don’t discuss, they don’t book dissent, they kill.  Truth is usually the first victim.  They have obviously read their Machiavelli and believe you can’t wound a prince, you must kill him.  (See Rick Perry)

2.  They lie with impunity- The modern GOP does not believe in facts, they believe in propaganda. They will look you in the eye – or more likely television camera- and lie. Their goal is to create an alternate reality that benefits the Rich without anyone getting wise to the situation.  (See Fox News)

3.  They are hypocrites-  They claim moral superiority and belief in “traditional” family values while serially abandoning wives and families for new trophy wives.  (See John McCain and Newt Gingrich)

4.  They are plastic- If Ken and Barbie ran for  office they would be Republicans.  I’m convinced the GOP and fundamentalist ministers keep the hairspray companies in business.  I would just love to put all the GOP debaters in a wind tunnel and see how they came out.  I wonder if their hair is real or if it’s like some play-dough helmet they put on everyday….(See Mitt Romney and Rick Perry)

5.  They are proud of their ignorance- They hate science and won’t believe simple facts.  They can’t be bothered to learn or study the issues.  (See Herman Cain and Sarah Palin-among others)

6.  They are intolerant of other religions or the religious views of others- Each of them seem to be convinced they have a direct line to God and he speaks only to them.  Anyone who disagrees with them is bound for hell.  (See Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum)

7.  They are heartless-  Ideological purity is of the utmost importance-particularly to the Libertarian Republicans.  These guys believe in almost no government.  If you get sick and don’t have any money, it’s okay to let you die.  They think you should have planned better and worked harder. (See Ron Paul)

8.  They are anti-intellectual-  Used to be we wanted the smartest guy or gal in the room for our President.  Not the GOP.  Not only are they proud of their ignorance, they dismiss intelligence and intellectual curiosity as signs of ideological weakness.  They think people who actually study the issues and the facts are wasting valuable time.  To them, facts are to be adjusted to drive the agenda and one shouldn’t think too much about things like starting a war with Iraq because someone insulted Daddy.  (See George W. Bush)

9.  The are vengeful- They truly believe there are only two important concepts in politics:  Loyalty and Revenge.  You must be loyal, without asking questions, or you will face their revenge.  (See George W. Bush and Dick Cheney)

10.  They are always out for themselves- Their motto really should be “I’ve got mine, screw you.”  They don’t believe in anything that stands in the way of profiteering.  It’s all about “me” to them.  They don’t even recognize the existence of anyone else as that would require them to stop gazing at themselves in the mirror and reading their bank statements.  (See Sarah Palin)

I could go on, but I’ll stop here for now….

I’m sure before the Republican Presidential Primaries are over, I’ll be able to add to this list…..

Some GOP Donors Think Bachmann is Jewish

What the hell????

Don’t these folks read anything?  Or at least watch television? How can they not know Michele Bachmann is a crazed, Right-Wing, Evangelical Christian nutcase?

Of course if these folks are donating to the GOP they have to be either nuts themselves or Rich and selfish or ignorant anyway….

Some Jewish donors are telling fundraisers for Mitt Romney that while they like him, they’d rather open their wallets for the “Jewish candidate,” Michele Bachmann, who they don’t realize is actually a Lutheran, the New York Post reports.

“Some in Romney’s camp have been wondering whether Bachmann and her allies are pushing the ‘Jewish’ rumor to help their own fund-raising… She has enjoyed strong popularity among Jewish voters and often talks about her stay on a kibbutz during the summer of 1974, when she was a teenager.”
