Why Gay Men Dont Get Fat

Well, this is news to me and most of my friends….

Sounds like another stereotypical book from the Circuit Party set for the Circuit Party set and the wannabes- but I’ll hold my fire until I read more about it…

I think it’s part of the proof of how much we’ve assimilated into society that we now get just as fat as straight men- at least outside of the NY-LA Gay Ghettos….

“Gay Men Don’t Get Fat” is the title of an as-of-yet published book by Barneys New York creative ambassador Simon Doonan. The author calls it “a stylishly slimming discourse that proves gay men really ARE French women: prone to disdain, favoring cheeky underwear, convinced of their own artistic brilliance, and of course calorie-obsessed.

”The French women reference, and title of his book, are both presumably a reference to the popular diet book “French Women Don’t Get Fat,” which espoused emulating French culinary culture to slim down.

Before we go any further, if Doonan wasn’t himself gay, I think he’d be treading on thin ice, you know, with the whole stereotyping thing. Gays and lesbians, like everyone else in the world, come in all shapes and sizes.

While I’ve had gay friends over the years, it’s difficult for me to speak with any authority about whether or not they are on average less fat than everyone else.

However, there is an undeniable sub-culture in the gay community that obsesses over their physique, which is the focus in “Gay Men Don’t Get Fat.”

What ultimately matters is have there been any scientific studies to back the idea of gay men being thinner than their hetero counterparts?

Last year, a study led by Kerith Conron, an associate research scientist at Northeastern University and a research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, came to the conclusion that, in fact, gay men are slimmer than heterosexual men. The same held true, flipped, for lesbians. That is, lesbians are on average heavier than their heterosexual counterparts. The researchers determined that gay men are 50 percent less likely to be obese.

Gayest Christmas Videos: Part 2- Gays in the Military Edition

Here is Nominee #4 from the HMS Ocean, a ship in the British Navy.

As background, Gays have been able to serve openly in the UK Military for several years….

This has obviously had many impacts.  Apparently one of which is even more people making Christmas videos to that damn Mariah Carey song that every homosexual seems to think is the only one to use when making silly Christmas videos.

Except this time a whole ship in Her Majesty’s Navy seems to be in on it….

And no one seems to mind….

Looks like a good way to build “unit cohesion” to me!

Chris Birch, Former Rugby Jock, Claims Stroke ‘Turned Him Gay’

Now I’ve definitely heard it all….

At least, it’s more evidence- as if it’s needed-  that being gay is not a choice, but an inherent part of who someone naturally is…..

Still….

From The Huffington Post:

The “nature vs. nurture” debate over sexual orientation continues at full force, but now, one former rugby-playing Welsh jock claims to have actually “woken up gay” after a gym accident led him to suffer a stroke.

As the Daily Mail is reporting, 26-year-old Chris Birch was trying to impress his friends with a back flip while training, but broke his neck and suffered a stroke. When he came to after being rushed to the hospital, Birch, who hails from South Wales, said his personality had completely changed. “It sounds strange but when I came round I immediately felt different,” said Birch.

Birch tells the Mirror that his most profound discovery came about during the recovery process, while he was watching a TV program featuring a handsome actor. “I felt my stomach flutter and the same feelings I used to have for pretty girls came across me,” said Birch, who also added he was no longer interested in sports and had little in common with old friends. “I had never felt like that about a man before but I knew immediately what the feeling was. I fancied him.”

Birch says he immediately started losing weight and dramatically altering his looks. Though he returned to his old job in a bank, he soon left his position and, much to the surprise of his friends and family, re-trained as a hairdresser and found work in a salon. Birch now lives with his partner Jack Powell, 19, above the salon, according to the Daily Mail.

Though he’s never heard of a stroke changing someone’s sexuality, Joe Korner, director of communications for The Stroke Association in the U.K. believes the stroke could potentially have a massive impact on a victim’s life. “Strokes are traumatic, life-changing experiences, which can make you reassess life and your feelings so perhaps that’s the reason behind it,” Korner tells CBS News. “Whether or not the stroke turned Chris gay, or whether he was gay anyway but unaware of it, his experience seems to be a positive one, which is great.”

The Time Has Come: Ban Straight Marriage

Great article from David Mixner’s blog, Live from Hell’s Kitchen:

The LGBT community likes to believe it is a tolerant community that is open to a wide spectrum of alternative relationships. However, with the recent marriage of Kim Kardashian that lasted for only 72 days we might have reached our limit. After a ten million dollar wedding, entirely sponsored by commercial interests, we are treated to a scam of a divorce. If only this was an exception in the straight community but alas it is just the latest in scam marriages that have placed heavy burdens on the institution of marriage.

What kind of message does this send our children? What kind of role models does this provide our little ones? These high profile short term marriages are just the ones visible. Can you imagine how many straights have practiced this violation of their marriage vows across the country?

The time has come for a Constitutional Amendment to ban straight marriages .

The haphazard way that straights have approached marriage hurts LGBT marriages. The LGBT community has worked hard to win marriage equality. With these clowns staying with their spouse for less than six months seriously demeans our scared vows. The LGBT community has had its patience tested with these quick divorces and it is time we take action.

Look at the record of the celebrities who have scarred the institution of marriage. Gwaker reports that these marriages have lasted less than six months. It is shocking, I tell you, it is shocking!

Gay Rights Pioneer Frank Kameny is Dead

Frank Kameny, one of the legendary leaders of the early Gay Rights Movement in the U.S. has died at the age of 86.

He fought a brave fight in a much scarier and more dangerous time than today.

How fitting that he passed today, on National Coming Out Day.

He was a giant and we stand on his shoulders.

Here he is in his own words:

Force Gay Marriage!

This ain’t the way we always heard it should be….

And, since my partner, Steve, and I have been together for almost 15 years, I can tell you it isn’t…

Well, most of it isn’t….

We are as close to married as you can be in North Carolina…

And the only reason we support Gay Marriage is to get the full legal benefits and recognition of what should be our basic rights after this much time together…

Still, I love this little Prop 8 commercial…

It’s like if my parents had been gay…..

Remember this come the May vote!

Obama: Commander in Chief Must Support Gay Troops

Good for him.  It’s about time he took a stronger stance both against the Republicans and for Gay Rights.

Admittedly, he had to be pushed- and pushed hard- by the Gay community to actually take some action, but he took it.

Now, I’m interested to see how fast his views on Gay Marriage continue to “evolve”……

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama sharply rebuked his Republican rivals, saying anyone who wants to be commander in chief must support the entire U.S. military, including gay service members.

A combative Obama on Saturday criticized Republican presidential candidates for staying silent when the crowd at a recent debate booed a gay soldier who asked a question of the contenders via videotape.

“You want to be commander in chief? You can start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient,” Obama said during remarks at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest gay rights organization.

Referencing the boos at the Sept. 22 Republican debate, he said: “We don’t believe in standing silent when that happens.”

Obama touted his administration’s efforts to repeal the military’s ban on openly gay service members, as well as his orders to the Justice Department to stop enforcing a law defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

But, as expected, Obama stopped short of endorsing gay marriage, saying only that “every single American deserves to be treated equally in the eyes of the law.”

Obama has said his views on gay marriage are “evolving”, but for now he only supports civil union.

Obama’s position on gay marriage has become a sore point for some gay activists who say they’re otherwise pleased with the president’s handling of issues important to them. Some of the president’s backers say he could be wasting a chance to energize key segments of his base, including young people, if he doesn’t publicly advocate for gay marriage.

“If he doesn’t, he could be missing an opportunity to mobilize voters who need to be inspired to vote for him,” said Doug Hattaway, a Democratic consultant.

The president’s position on gay marriage puts him at odds with some of his supporters. Numerous recent polls suggest a slight majority of Americans favor giving same-sex couples the right to marry, and support is highest among Democrats and young people.

Obama has acknowledged that public support for gay marriage is building. During a meeting with liberal bloggers last October, he said “it’s pretty clear where the trend lines are going.”

The Revolutionary Costume for Today

Being a Gay man who is both a Southern boy and a W&L boy, I spend a lot of time worrying about clothes and appearances….

I try not to, but I can’t help it….

When I went to my first Gay Pride Rally/March years ago, my biggest worry was what to wear?  Especially, since I didn’t even own a t-shirt back then-and still rarely wear jeans.  Ralph Lauren seemed a bit much for the event, but I think I wore it anyway….

And we somehow ended up marching with “The Women of the Land” who were Lesbians who were into simple living in a natural environment.  They were not wearing Ralph, but they were real sweet and we got along just fine….

Anyway, here is some  advice from Little Edie from “Grey Gardens”, the musical.  This was a flawed show, but I still saw it twice in New York.  Once off-Broadway and again on Broadway.  Christine Ebersole really earned her Tony….
